Lester Whitney
April 11, 1942 - September 13, 2016
We lost our beloved husband and father, Lester Woodrow Whitney, 74, of Kuna, Idaho, on September 13, 2016. Les was born on April 11, 1942 in Nampa, Idaho to Wesley Woodrow Whitney and Christine E. Hendrix Whitney. Les was later joined by his devoted sister, Lola. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Les proudly joined the United States Army in 1961 serving in Korea and Vietnam. After leaving the United States Army in 1965, Les worked for Boise Cascade, and as a licensed electrician for various mobile home manufacturers where he met his wife, Cora. He later joined the Idaho Army National Guard and served for the next twenty years. He was 1st Sergeant of 2/116th ACR Troop F in Nampa. He was also a Helicopter crew chief, electrical technician, and worked in STARC and MILES out of Gowen Field.
He dearly loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling. He was a big supporter to multiple charities.
Les is survived by his mother, Christine E. Whitney; his wife, Cora; his children, Blaine, Michelle, Cheri, John, and their spouses; and his sister, Lola Nydegger and family. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Les was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We'll miss you "Pops!" Love you to the moon and back!
Private Family Services and interment will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
