January 19, 1920 - November 14, 2012
Lucy A. Rodriquez, 92, of Nampa, Idaho, ended her journey here on Earth, November 14, 2012 at her daughter's home surrounded by her family.
Lucy was born January 19, 1920 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Celso and Hobita Auntunes. Lucy only attended elementary school for a short time until the passing of her mother, at which time she was forced to quit school to stay home and care for her siblings.
Lucy married Joseph Martinez on June 5, 1945 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. While in Cheyenne five of their children joined them. In 1953 when they moved to Nampa they added three more children to complete their family of eight. Lucy later met and married Santos Rodriquez.
Lucy resided her life in Nampa enjoying all that Nampa could offer her. She had a very long and successful career in Environmental Services at the Idaho State School and Hospital. Lucy enjoyed all of her many years at the State School and Hospital, but with years of service comes retirement, which she enjoyed just as much as working. Lucy was the mother to eight wonderful children.
Lucy had many passions throughout her life. She loved to dance and cook. She also loved to sew and going yard sales. Another one of Lucy's prized moments and times in her life is the fifteen years, 1989-2004, that she spent as a foster grandparent for those needing some love and attention in their lives.
Mom (Grans) will be greatly missed. She was a loving person who opened her arms and heart to anyone and everyone that she met. We will miss mom's warm heart, her jokes and her smile and laugh that could liven up any situation. The thing that we will miss most is the ability that she had to keep all of the family together. Lucy was the epitomy of service. She was very selfless, helping first her father and siblings down to her children and her grandchildren. You could always count on love, support, and help from Lucy in anyway that she could or that she knew how to provide.
Lucy is survived by her children: Manuel Martinez, son of Boise; Mary Helen Martinez, daughter of Boise; Edward and Sharon Martinez, son and daughter-in-law of California; Deloris and Alberto Salinas, daughter and son-in-law of Nampa; and Lisa and Manuel Alvarado, daughter and son-in-law of Nampa. Also surviving her are 37 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, and 19 great great-grandchildren
Lucy is preceded in death by four of her sons; Richard Martinez, Noel Martinez, David Martinez, and Francisco Martinez. Her parents, Celso and Hobita Auntunes, her twin brother Jesse Auntunes, her brother Chuy Auntunes, and two sisters Sandy Auntunes and Jenny Cantu.
The family has placed their trust in Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel for care of Lucy and her final arrangements. A viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 20th from 4-7 pm at Alsip Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa, Idaho. A funeral mass will be held, Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 am at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, 1515 8th Street South, Nampa, Idaho with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
