Marilyn Vail Daniels
8/5/1949 - 11/23/2015
Marilyn Kay Vail Daniels passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 due to complications associated with Dementia/Alzheimer's.
Marilyn was the firstborn child of Elmore and Jeanne Vail, entering this world Aug 5, 1949 in Nampa, Idaho. She was a dedicated Christian, being baptized at an early age at College Church of the Nazarene, the church she would call home for her entire life.
She was a lifelong resident of Nampa, attending Roosevelt elementary, Nampa Christian middle school, graduating from Nampa High School in 1967. Marilyn attended Northwest Nazarene College, where her father was a professor and coach, and majored in Elementary Education. While at NNC she was a member of the college choir, Northwesterners, and lettered in women's tennis.
After graduating in 1972, Marilyn taught 5th grade in the Caldwell School District for 30 years, teaching at Washington, Van Buren, and Wilson elementary. She taught for 15 years and then took a leave of absence, subsequently opening a "made-in-idaho" type craft/gift store in Boise called Idaho at Heart. She owned and operated 3 of these stores for several years until deciding to return to teaching, which was her first love. She finished her teaching career in 2007.
In Nov, 1974 she met her future husband, Joe, and 7 months later they were married. Marilyn and Joe celebrated their 40th anniversary this past June. She was an integral part of Joe's success: an agricultural fertilizer, chemical, and seed application business, being the original catalyst behind the scenes, providing support and guidance at every opportunity.
Marilyn and Joe have two children: Thomas, born in 1978 and who is a professional tennis player/instructor, and Sarah, born in 1981 and who is a medical assistant in the St Luke's health system.
Marilyn loved music. She sang in many choirs, performing solos across the valley, and could be heard singing as she drove the car to and from work. At College Church, she sang in the choir continuously from her teenage years until illness prevented her from participating. She was an accomplished tennis player. She was a published author of cross-stitch "how-to" books. She loved children of all ages, going so far as to buy food and clothing for needy kids in her classrooms. She liked to make homemade crafts and give them as presents to family and friends. She loved all people and never missed an opportunity to hug a friend or stranger. Marilyn was a loving mother and faithful companion to Joe.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Jeanne and Elmore. She is survived by her husband, Joe; her children Thomas (Jennifer) of Boerne, TX, and Sarah (Corey Dalgetty) of Nampa; two sisters, Sandy Cudmore (Pat) of Nampa, and Barb Robertson (Richard) of Marsing, Id.; a brother, Jay E Vail of Boise; 6 grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Our family would like to specifically thank Molly Trowbridge, whose care of Marilyn over 2 ½ years was a special blessing, and publicly acknowledge and thank the staff of Brookstone Village and the compassionate team at Encompass Hospice for their loving care of Marilyn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28 at 11:00am at College Church of the Nazarene. Private interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction and care of Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa 466-3545.
