Mark E. Howell, Jr
September 6, 1930 - June 22, 2015
Mark E. Howell, Jr. was born September 6, 1930 in York, Nebraska, and went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on June 22, 2015, surrounded by family at his Wilder home.
Mark accepted the Lord at an early age and grew to depend on the Lord's wisdom and strength throughout his entire life. It was a journey that he shared with his wife, Joyce, as they raised their six children and incorporated their faith into their family values.
After Mark's graduation from Wilder High School, he met the love of his life, Joyce A. Karn on a blind date. They were married on April 20, 1953, in Wilder, and celebrated 62 years of marriage this last year.
Mark's accomplishments include service in the Army National Guard of Idaho from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1953, service from 1953 to 1956 in the Reserve Army National Guard, employment at PCA for 18 years, and appraising services for many additional years.
Mark farmed most of his life in Wilder, growing grapes, sugar beets, seed crops, onions, field corn and raising Black Angus cattle. In 1984, Mark started farming alongside his son, Jim on the family farm. Those were some of the happiest days of his life.
Mark is survived by his lifelong love and wife, Joyce Howell; his children, Karen (Phil) Coonts of Stanley, Julia (George) Cochran of Wilder, James (Laurea) Howell of Wilder, Ken (Bernadine) Howell of Boise, Martha (Paul) Gamble of Peoria, IL and Matthew (Dawn) Howell of Kuna; 15 dear grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jane (Elvin) Ballou of Nyssa, OR, Norma Dazey of Broken Arrow, OK, Charlotte Johnson of Caldwell, Dorothy Goodloe of Nampa, and Charles (Barbara) Howell of Salem, OR; and sister-in-law, Helen Karn of Boise.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara; parents, Mark and Louise Howell; 4 brothers-in-law, Cleland Goodloe, Eugene Dazey, George Johnson, and Glenn Karn; and grandson, Kenneth E. Cochran.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th at Golden Gate Baptist Church, Wilder, with burial immediately following at Wilder Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his honor to the Wilder Public Library, The Golden Gate Baptist Church, or to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in honor of Mark's grandson, Lance Cpl. Kenneth Cochran.
