Mary Gladys Alley
April 2, 1925 - April 10, 2016
Mary G. Alley, 91, of Caldwell passed away at her home Sunday April 10, 2016 of natural causes.
Mary was born April 2, 1925 in Princeton, MO to James Earl and Frances Mae (LaFollette) McLain. She grew up in the Princeton area and attended high school there. On November 1, 1941, when she was 16 years old, she married the love of her life, Fred H. Alley of Mercer, MO. In February 1944, they welcomed their first son into their lives, Frederick Eugene "Gene". In 1950, after Fred returned from WWII they moved to Caldwell, ID where they spent the rest of their lives. She worked a variety of jobs to make ends meet until August 1959 when Cynthia Lynn was born. Then in April 1962, Douglas "Doug" James was born. She decided to further her education and attended night classes at Vallivue High School and learned skills like shorthand to help her excel in her job as a legal secretary. She did that for many years in Caldwell and retired in 1987 from Farm Credit Services. After retirement, she and Fred spent much of their time at their cabin near Cascade and traveling. You could find them many Friday and Saturday nights at local dance halls and after Fred passed she didn't miss many dances at the Caldwell Senior Center where she enjoyed attending well into her 80's. She cherished spending lots of time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her daughter Cynthia Darbin of Caldwell; son Doug Alley of Boise; granddaughter Kristin (Joe) Dorchuck of Sonora, CA; granddaughter Jessica (Jeremiah) Bush of Nampa; granddaughter Cheyane (Nic) Steinmetz of Caldwell; great grandchildren: Dakota; Izaac; Claire. She was preceded in death by her father Earl McLain; mother Frances Motz; husband Fred Alley; and son Gene Alley.
There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate her long, wonderful life on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00pm at Caldwell United Methodist Church, 824 E. Logan St. Caldwell, ID 83605 with a potluck style reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting gifts be given to the Caldwell United Methodist Church or the Caldwell Chapter#1 P.O. Box 1362 Caldwell, ID 83605. Condolences may be left at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
