Mary Doris Nicholes
October 15, 1920 - February 27, 2017
Mary Doris Nicholes passed away on February 27th. She was born October 15, 1920 in Nampa, Idaho to Edward and Amanda Morgan, the second of three children. She graduated from Nampa High and later attended the College of Idaho where she met her future husband, Preston Robert "Bob" Nicholes. Prior to her marriage in 1944, Mary taught school in the Noland Heights area. Mary and Bob were married shortly before the end of WW II and ultimately settled in Caldwell where they raised two daughters and lived most of their married life.
Mary, along with other young Caldwell women, founded a long-standing bridge club that became an integral part of their adult lives and brought entertainment plus companionship well into old age. Mary also enjoyed her roles as a Girl Scout leader and elementary school room mother. Much later she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Caldwell Memorial Hospital and also became a Caldwell PEO member.
Mary and Bob were active life-long members of Caldwell's Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church. Nothing in her lifetime, however, gave Mary more pleasure and more joy than her role as a grandmother. Mary is survived by two daughters, Robbye Clements of Boise and Linda Nicholes of Orange County, California as well as four grandchildren and two great grandsons.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, one grandson and two sisters. Per her request there will be no memorial service. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Caldwell YMCA.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone on the 7th floor of St. Luke's, Boise, for the incredible care given and compassion shown to Mary during the last 11 days of her life here on earth.
Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.
