Mary Catherine Winkle
May 23, 1940 - November 12, 2012
Mary Catherine Martin was born to Sterling and Catherine Martin on May 23, 1940 in Twin Falls, Idaho and spent her childhood in southern Idaho. She gave her heart to Jesus at an early age and faithfully lived a life of service to her Lord. She married Weldon Perry Winkle and fully supported him when he became ordained in the Church of the Nazarene. She faithfully served beside him in churches in Juliaetta and Lewiston, Idaho; Hermiston, Oregon; Quincy, Spokane, Connell, and Marysville, Washington. Mary was a faithful pastor's wife as she fulfilled many roles, including Sunday School teacher, piano player, church secretary, mentoring and listening to many in their time of need. Her heart was always for others and she gave her life to missions as she served as a local Missionary president, District Missionary President, General Missionary Board member, as well as participation in various Work and Witness and Prayer Vision teams. Mary also enjoyed working with young people during her employment at the Lake Stevens School District in Washington and the Nampa School District in Idaho. Mary went to sleep Sunday night and peacefully passed away Monday morning. Her memories and example will live on in the lives of daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Keith Field; daughter, Dawnita Winkle, both of Nampa and son and daughter-in-law, Perry and K'Lynn Winkle of Centralia, Washington. She was a much-loved Nana to Stephen, Samantha, Sheldon Field and Kayla and Nathan Winkle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Weldon Perry Winkle, as well as her parents, brother, Sterling and sister, Nancy. She is survived by sister, Margie Ledington, of Pasco, Washington; brother, Joe Martin, of Bend, Oregon; and sister, Joy Blackwell, of Salem, Oregon. Mary was a very special woman to numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and a large extended family around the world. Our lives are better because of her. A memorial services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene.
