Merwyn B. Moore
October 20, 1936 - June 26, 2015
Merwyn B. Moore, 78 of Nampa lost a battle with COPD on June 26, 2015.
Merv was the only son born to Elsie and Boyd Moore October 20, 1936 in Stapleton, Nebraska.
The family moved to Nampa in 1940, where his father went to work for the railroad. He attended East Side School and later Nampa High School where he graduated in May 1954. The following June 23rd, he and other buddies joined the Navy. They went to boot camp in San Diego, California. His first assignment was aboard the aircraft carrier the Oriskany, for 3 years, traveling to many locations in the Far East. He joined the Seabee's in the Naval Construction Battalion where he retired as Chief.
He was a heavy equipment operator and also worked in Law Enforcement in Roselle, Illinois and as a Deputy Sheriff in Dove Creek, Colorado. He had an insurance license in Cortez, Colorado. He was a long distance truck driver and went to be an instructor at a truck driving school in Oregon.
He married Dolorita Taylor in January 1963 in Chicago, Illinois. They were blessed with a daughter Stephanie and son Stephen. Merv had many interests and talents. He was an accomplished mechanic. He had a lifelong interest in music and played the guitar and keyboard. As a youth he worked on many area ranches and also in Jordan Valley. In later years he participated in the brandings and cattle drives for the Bass Ranch on Reynolds Creek.
He proudly obtained a pilot's license and later his commercial license. He worked on planes in Chicago and also Nampa. He also said his first love was flying and enjoyable times were hunting and fishing and horseback riding in the mountains.
He moved from Nampa to Snowflake, Arizona and put a home together there on 10 acres in 1999. He resided there until a year ago he came back to Nampa and attended a class reunion and enjoyed seeing many cherished classmates.
Merv was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Charlene and Patricia, and his beloved Aunt Eva.
He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Ybarra and grandson Greg of Tucson, Arizona; a son Stephen and granddaughter Emily Claire of San Jose, California, a daughter Christene, a sister Marilyn and soulmate Teresa.
The family wishes to thank Treasure Valley Hospice and the caregivers at Streamside Assisted Living for their loving care and support.
A graveside service will be held Monday July 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery 10101 N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. Boise, Idaho. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
