Myrlene Joyce (Hull) Rourke, of Newberg, Oregon, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, OR following a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 72 years, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Vancouver, Washington on April 15, 1944, the second daughter of Pastors Calvin and Lela Hull. As a pastor's daughter, Myrlene lived with her family in Oregon, Iowa, Washington and Greenleaf, Idaho. She attended Friends Academy in Haviland, Kansas, and graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy in 1962 and Boise Junior College (now Boise State University) as a Registered Nurse in 1964. She obtained a Bachelor's degree from George Fox College (now University) in 1990.
She married Joseph William (Bill) Rourke Jr. on August 28, 1964. Three children blessed this couple; Joey born in 1966, Shelley in 1968 and Tony in 1973.
She enjoyed a long career in nursing only giving up her license in April 2016. She was an active member of the North Valley Friends Church in Newberg.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill; a son Joseph (Joey) Rourke III (Debbeelynn) of Yamhill, OR; daughter Shelley Geil (Matt) of La Center, Washington; and a son, Antony (Tony) Rourke (Heidi) from Leander, Texas, plus 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and two sisters, Sherrill Comfort, of Newberg and Yvonne Leppert of Filer, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Lela Hull and a brother David.
A service to honor her life will be held at the North Valley Friends Church in Newberg, Oregon on Saturday, November 12, at 3 p.m. There will be a private burial service. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Twin Rocks Friends Camp, PO Box 6, Rockaway Beach, OR 97136 designated for the Nursing Station Remodeling project.
