Noma L. Wood
January 12, 1912 - March 11, 2016
Noma L. Wood, 104, passed away peacefully Friday, March 11 at the Life Care Center in Boise, ID. She was born January 12, 1912 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Charley and Mary Reece. She spent her childhood in the hollers near Mountain Grove and attended school until the 8th grade. Noma had three brothers and two sisters. She met her soon-to-be husband Elmer Wood at a community dance and the two were married in Hartville, Missouri on December 23, 1931. In 1941 the family left Missouri and moved west to Adrian, Oregon where they raised their four sons, Floyd, Lloyd, Leonard, and Roger on their farm. They were married 57 years. After Elmer's passing, Noma stayed on the farm until she was 97 years old, still mowing her lawn, planting a big garden, digging ditches and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her boys and extended-family were her pride and joy. She loved having all of her family members come to visit, and anyone could stay as long as they wanted. She would always greet family in her apron with a big hug and a welcoming "howdy-do." Noma loved to make her famous cinnamon rolls or blackberry cobbler and homemade chicken and noodles and cornbread. She loved to crochet and quilt and she made her grandchildren quilts and her great grandchildren hats and booties. She always said her secret to living such a long life was, "hard work and clean living and being a tough old bird."
Noma is survived by two of her sons, Floyd Wood of Homedale, Idaho and Leonard Wood (Penny) of Fairfield, Washington. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Sherri Wood of Boise, Idaho; Mark Wood (Karen) of Adrian, Oregon; Brenda Wood (Ken) of Nampa, Idaho; Larry Wood (Toni) of Meridian, Idaho; Robin Wood of Nyssa, Oregon; Michael Wood (Kim) of Boise, Idaho; Lori Hernandez (Jose) of Kuna, Idaho; Jon Wood (Susan) of Nyssa, Oregon; Wayne Wood (Tracey) Corvallis, Oregon; Nick Wood (Shasta) Marsing, Idaho; and Clinton Wood (Michelle) Boise, Idaho. Noma is also survived by 27 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
Noma was preceded in death by her parents Charley and Mary Reece, her husband Elmer Wood, two sons Lloyd Wood and Roger Wood, two grandchildren Janell Conner and Scott Wood, a great grandchild Aubrey Wood and all of her brothers and sisters.
Grandma's strength and tenacity will live on in all of us and her love and support will forever be in our hearts.
