Paul "Bill" William Shenk
September 28, 1934 - August 8, 2015
Paul William Shenk, age 80, passed away on August 8, 2015, in Homedale, Idaho.
Paul William was born September 28, 1934, Nampa, Idaho, at his Aunt Nita's home. She took one look at the new guy and called him Charming Billy. The name stuck. He was Billy.
Bill was the fourth child born to Mark and Ada Criffield Shenk. He joined brothers John and Art and big Sis Adean. Brothers Den and Dick followed along with the two little sisters that joined the bunch, Cindy & Christy. They were raised in the Ridgeview Community near Adrian. Bill went to elementary school in the Ridgeview School House and high school at Adrian High. There he finished his education as did his children.
Bill married Florence May Stanford on November 19, 1953 in a double ceremony with Dave & Nellie Stanford Gorley. Just a continuance of the lifetimes spent of the boys growing up together and the girl cousins that grew up together too on Jackson Creek, Jordan Valley, Oregon. As their families grew, we spent lots of time together. Dad & Mom were married 61 years. They raised 4 girls and Paul on their farm. They raised us to think we were very important to the farming operation. What more could you give a kid? Took the time to load us up to go help, only as we got older did we realize "what help" we were...They farmed there in Ridgeview for over 55 years. Paul bought the farm down the road in 1979 and they farmed together while another bunch of Shenk kids grew up on it. The farming goes on today with the addition of his grandson Lawrence.
Poppa "Pop" as he was known to all the 12 grandkids, their friends and 20 great grandkids that followed. He never failed to show his love and pride in all of them. Once again setting the bar high for us, the amount of time spent cheering on us and every kid that passed in front of him, will be hard to match and will be so very missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John & Art.
Survivors include his wife Florence & five children: Vikki Price (Joel) Adrian, Oregon; Toni Case (Terry) Nyssa, Oregon; Robin Martin (Bob) Adrian, Oregon; Louise Wortman (Mark) Helena, Montana; Paul (Alyce) Adrian, Oregon. He leaves behind 12 grandkids and 20 great grandkids and so many family members and friends. He was a good son, brother, husband, dad, grandparent and friend.
Bill's funeral service will be held Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. at the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 26515 Ustick Road, Wilder, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Adrian Football Program, c/o Adrian High School, Adrian, Oregon 97901
