Pirena Cunningham
January 21, 1917 - November 2, 2015
At the age of 98, Pirena Cunningham passed gently into the arms of the awaiting angels November 2, 2015. She is free at last, as her spirit has returned to God and she awaits that promised grand reunion in the heavens. She was born January 21, 1917 in Alpin, North Dakota to Carl & Agatha Stephens, joining an older sister Gladys (Earl) Bigham and followed by a younger sister, Florence (Leslie) Libbey all of whom have predeceased her.
The family moved from North Dakota to Notus, Idaho, where Pirena attended elementary school. They later moved to a farm in Grants Pass, Oregon where she completed her education and graduated from High School. She met the love of her life, Leighton Cunningham, while he was working on her parents' farm. They married August 19, 1939 and had five children all of whom are still living: Jerry (Troy); Larry (Mimi): Steve (Carol); Marilyn (Mort) Watts and Robert (Becky).
Following Marilyn's birth the family moved to Nampa, Idaho and operated a turkey farm for many years. They moved to the Sand Hollow area in 1956, and in addition to farming, Leighton worked for the Railroad and Pirena worked for Glen L. Evans Fish Fly. The family built a home on Canyon Hill in Caldwell in 1963 and spent many happy years in this home, with Pirena moving to a smaller home in Caldwell in 2001. Leighton passed away in 1986 after 46 years of marriage.
Pirena lived in her own home until December 2012 at which time she moved to Annabelle House. She later transitioned to Park Place in Nampa, March 2014. Pirena loved to grow flowers, play the piano, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank her many caregivers and all the special friends who ministered to her needs.
Pirena is a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Caldwell Church of Christ at 4012 South Tenth Ave. in Caldwell, November 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of Christ, Canyon County Community Clinic, or a .
