Ramona Gjerde
October 11, 1929 - January 31, 2016
Ramona Gjerde, 86, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, January 31, 2016 at her home in Middleton, ID. Mona was born October 11, 1929 in White Sulphur Springs, Montana to Cloyd and Vivian Johnson. She was raised as a rancher's daughter along with 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Mona attended school in White Sulphur Springs and Wilsall where she especially enjoyed playing basketball. It was there through her best friend, Verna Lou Gjerde; she met the love of her life, John. Mona and John spent the next 52 years together loving and raising their 3 children; Scott, Cindy and Jace. Their adventures in life led them from ranching in Montana to real estate in Arizona then back to ranching in Arco, Idaho, Eureka, California and finally landing in Middleton where they farmed and raised cattle with Torris and Norma Gjerde. Mona enjoyed all of farm and ranch life, even pulling the button weed along the fence lines. Mona could tell you the name or number of every cow in a herd of 300 and what calf belonged to what cow. Her horses were one of the other loves of her life after family. One of her horses was Dancer whom she raised from a colt, showed, barrel raced and pampered for the next 33 years. In her 70'sand 80's after retiring from ranching, Mona spent special Saturdays barrel racing and gaming with her daughter-in-law, Rachelle, good friend, Sharon and granddaughter, Katie. Mona also enjoyed visiting her niece Nicky and Mike McGinnis at their ranch during spring calving outside of Baker City, Oregon. She enjoyed cheering their grandkids in their sports competitions, traveling to Mexico and an Alaskan cruise, rodeos and horse camping with Jace and Rachelle. She was an active member of Middleton Baptist Church and especially enjoyed her Thursday Ladies Bible Study group. She was especially blessed in the last few years with two beautiful granddaughters; Rae and Ali, they made her laugh and smile.
Mona is survived by her twin brother, Ramon (Bud) Johnson, sister Erma Jean Kremper of Montana, 3 children; Scott Gjerde, Cindy (Mike) Talkington, Jace (Rachelle) Gjerde, 4 grandchildren; Mike, Sam, Josh and Katie, 5 greatgrandchildren; Jordan, Issac, Raelynn, Alicynn, and Jax along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mona was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, three brothers and two sisters.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, those who may be so inclined consider contributing to Boise Rescue Mission (343-2389) and West Valley Humane Society (455-5920). The family would like to extend Special Thanks to Christina, Karena, Shannon, Aurora, Rick and Dr. Allen of Auburn Crest Hospice for their care and support of Mona and our family over the past 2 months.
A Viewing for Ramona will be held Friday, February 5, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
