Richard "Dick" Davis Hansen
January 5, 1940 - September 20, 2015
Richard Davis Hansen "Dick", age 75, of Wilson, Idaho passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the VA hospital in Boise, ID from complications of lupus and ALS. Dick was born in San Mateo, California on January 5, 1940. After graduating from San Mateo High School in 1957, he served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, stationed in Washington D.C. and Korea. He then began a long career as a deputy sheriff with the San Mateo County Sherriff's department. In May of 1967, he married JoAnn Hendry, a native of Idaho. During their 13 year marriage, they had two children, Jennifer and Mathew. In 1985, Dick retired from San Mateo County and moved to Meridian, Idaho to be closer to his kids. He worked for several years in the Ada County Sheriff's Department, as well as part time at a local hardware store, and driving a tow truck before retiring and moving to the town of Wilson in rural Owyhee County in 2002. Dick loved traveling and exploring the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, motorcycle riding, and acting like a kid. He also had a passion for classic cars and could often be found tinkering in his shop. Dick was a one of a kind, charismatic, energetic, rebellious, big hearted man who made an impression on everyone he met.He is survived by his brother Leonard Hansen of Brentwood, CA, his children; Jennifer Hansen of Nampa and Mathew Hansen of Boise, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Patricia, and his ex-wife, JoAnn Hansen. An Open House Celebration of Life will be held at Jennifer's home on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00. All who knew Dick are invited to attend. Jennifer can be contacted at (208) 250-6826.
