Robert Lindsey Vaughn
9/30/1928 - 10/15/2015
Robert Lindsey Vaughn Sr., 87, entered his heavenly home on Oct 15, 2015 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Robert was born to the late Harry and Lucile Vaughn on September 30, 1928 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Robert was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his sweetheart, Roberta Jones, on August 29th, 1958 in Potlatch, Idaho and together they raised 5 children.
Robert graduated from Almond High School in 1946 and shortly after, at the age of 17, he moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he worked for both Kraft Cheese and the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1949, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a tank mechanic state side and in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Robert began his college career in 1953 at Washington State University studying veterinary medicine. In 1956 his love of the outdoors led him to logging the mountains of Northern Idaho, and in 1960 he opened the Potlatch Auto Body Repair shop. In 1964, Robert began his productive 24 year career with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game as the superintendent of various state wide fish hatcheries. In 1968 he finished his college career at Boise State University with a B.S. in Zoology. In 1988 he retired, having worked as a Superintendent 3 at the Hagerman State Fish Hatchery. He was an active member in the American Legion, Post 18, after moving to Nampa and served the Nampa/Kuna rural community as a custom farmer until the age of 84. Robert was an avid Idaho hunting and fishing sportsman and loved his annual salmon fishing trips on the Oregon Coast.
The family expresses appreciation to Copper Creek Senior Living (formerly Diamond View Assisted Living and Memory Care) for their loving care over the last 16 months.
Robert is survived by his wife, Roberta; children, Loree Haulman (Landis), Joe Vaughn, Janet Zadar (Mike), Jay Vaughn (Cassie), and Rob Vaughn (Melanie); 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Elinor Jones, Mary Bucholtz, and Nancy Burns of Wisconsin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucile; brothers, Harry and Pete Vaughn; and his sister, Charlotte Zimmerman.
