Roger J. Sayre
February 24, 1932 - January 21, 2015
Roger James Sayre, 82, 7004 Custer Ave., Billings, Montana, 59106, died Wednesday January 21, 2015 at Palmdale Regional Hospital in California, following a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Yvonne (Gifford) Sayre, his daughters Pamela Ask (Wayne), Susan Marvin (Rick) and his sons Randy Sayre (Donna) and Rick Sayre (Dawn). 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was born and raised in Caldwell, Idaho, son of Pirl and LaVona Sayre. He started working at the Idaho Department Store at the age of 12. In 1954, he was made manager of the shoe department. Three years later he became manager of the entire store. In 1964 he was transferred to Sioux Falls, SD and was the manager of Shriver's Department Store for 10 years. In 1974, he accepted a position as a software buyer for Gibson's in Billings, Montana. In 1985, he bought his own business and had that until his retirement in 2000 at the age of 68.
In his early years, Roger played baseball for the Payette team. He earned his pilot license from the Caldwell Airport and enjoyed that hobby for many years. He was an avid golfer and loved to fly fish. After his retirement, he spent time in the summer on the Big Horn River in Montana fly fishing. His winters were spent in Kernville, California where he belonged to the local country club and enjoyed playing golf almost every day.
A memorial service will be held on April 11, 2015 at the Big Horn Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Montana.
