Royal Anthony Wenig Jr. 88 of Emmett, passed away August 12, 2015 at his home in Emmett.
Royal was born October 22, 1926 in Salem, Oregon, one of two sons born to Royal Sr. and Melinda (Meixner) Wenig. He grew up in Salem and graduated from High School in 1944. He joined the Navy and served during WWII and was recalled during the Korean Conflict. Between wars he married Mary "Jean" Fisher on September 11, 1948. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Food Technology. In 1960 the family moved to Emmett where he worked at the cannery until it closed. Royal and Jean also started and operated Sure Sweet Pugs, a well known dog kennel.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Ernest) Walker of Emmett and Judith Schlegel of Yerington, Nevada; grandchildren, Jessica Glover, Cameron Schlegel, Quennel Glover, Raymond Walker and Garret Walker; great grandchildren, Aubrei Glover and Melody Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William, and his wife, Mary "Jean" Wenig.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 18th at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PALS, (Pet Adoption League) which they founded in Emmett, 1526 N. Washington Ave., Emmett, ID 83617 or the American Legion, P.O. Box 132, Emmett, ID 83617.
