She was raised in Soquel, and Castroville, CA. the Artichoke Capitol of the World. She graduated from Castroville grammar school and attended high school at a Catholic Girls Boarding School in Watsonville, CA.
While waiting tables at her mother's Jack and Jill Café in the Franco Hotel in Castroville she met her future husband, Raymond "Bus" Walker. They were married January 14, 1934 and moved to Brentwood, CA. where "Bus" had a job as a book keeper for H.P. Garin Co. Sara and "Bus" had a daughter, Sandra, and 16 years later welcomed a second daughter Debbie. Sara was a Civilian Plane Spotter during World War II. She was assistant leader for Brentwood's first Girl Scout troop. After moving to Caldwell she enjoyed being a volunteer at West Valley Medical Center.
In 2010, after recovering from a broken hip, she moved into independent living at Karcher Estates. She thrived there making friends with the residents and staff. She enjoyed going on their planned trips, out to eat, scenic bus rides, and especially playing rumicube. She liked to win.
September 9th, she suffered a stroke and a heart attack and she spent the rest of her life in Assisted Living at Karcher Estates. She passed away December 15th.
Sara loved gardening, flower arranging, decorating her home and was a gracious hostess. She was a wonderful cook, loved to bake and was dubbed the Dessert Queen by her family. Many of her recipes are cherished family treasures.
