Weldon Lee Wight
November 1, 1928 - May 29, 2015
Weldon Lee Wight, 86 of Caldwell, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at a local care facility. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5th at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.
Weldon began life on November 1, 1928 in the Wight house near Bartley, Nebraska, the first of two sons born to Viola (Stapp) and Paul Wight. When Weldon was 7 years old, the Dust Bowl played a major role in the family's decision to head west to Idaho. He attended schools in the Boise Valley, graduating from New Plymouth High School in 1947. He worked the summer, saving his money to attend Idaho Beauty and Barber College in Boise where he received the training that led to his lifelong career.
On November 26, 1950 Weldon married Oleen Foote, the love of his life. Together they raised two sons and a daughter.
On February 26, 2008, in honor of Weldon's 60 years of barbering in Caldwell, the Mayor and entourage paraded into his barber shop proclaiming that date as Weldon Wight Day in Caldwell, presenting him with a plaque, and reading the proclamation on behalf of the city council.
Aside from barbering, Weldon pursued his interest in Archeology, rock collecting, hunting and fishing and served in the Idaho National Guard in the 1950s.
Weldon was preceded in death by his beloved Oleen.
He is survived by his brother, Ron (Judy) Wight of New Plymouth; two sons, Craig (Danett) Wight of Mukilteo, WA and Dan (Deanne) Wight of Caldwell; a daughter, Leslie (Russ) Thompson of Boise; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece, M'Shell Wight of Pocatello; and a nephew, Jonnathan (Heidi) Wight of Boise.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Idaho Archaeological Society, PO Box 1976 Boise, Idaho 83701.
