Wendell Keith Klein
8/22/1928 - 2/20/2015
On the morning of February 20, 2015 in Nampa, ID, Wendell Keith Klein went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Wendell was born in Lucas, Kansas on August 22, 1928 to David John Klein and Alta Blanche Peck. He was raised on his dad's farm in Kansas and worked there until he moved to Southern California. There he joined the Navy and met his wife, Naomi June Steelhead, in Pasadena. After serving in the military during the Korean War, Wendell began studying Education at colleges in Southern California. There he taught school and went on to earn his Masters Degree in School Administration at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Wendell moved his family to Nampa, Idaho in 1964. He served as principal in the Nampa and Valley View school districts and also taught elementary school until his retirement. During the summer months Wendell built custom homes. After his retirement he went to work at Albertsons and, in his spare time, he liked to build bird houses, hunt for yard sale treasures, and paint. He also wrote and published an autobiography of his life. We have fond memories of Wendell at Christmas playing his harmonica and leading his loved ones in song. Wendell's outgoing and joyous personality made him the centerpiece of family gatherings, a friend to any stranger, and a favorite playmate of his two great-grandchildren.
Wendell is survived by his sons, Dale Klein; Michael (Sharon) Klein; Aaron Klein; daughter, Janis (Ralph) Vinci; granddaughters, Penny (John) Rea; Sari Klein; grandsons, Jacob Zimmerman; Andrew Klein; Kent Klein; great-granddaughters, Emily and Ashley Rea; brother, Gerald (Irene) Klein; sister, Ruth Twombly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife; brothers, Victor; Kenneth; sisters, Nina Kuitems; Joyce Brownwood; Juanita Grogan.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Treasure Valley Hospice and Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel. A committal service will be held Wednesday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
