Gerald "Gary" Alan Neubauer
January 29, 1950 - July 16, 2014
Gary Neubauer, 64, of Caldwell, Idaho spent his first day in heaven on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Gary was born in Nampa, Idaho to Lyman and Lois Neubauer in 1950 and moved to Sunny Slope the following year. In his youth, the family also resided in Wendell, Idaho and Yakima, Washington. While in Yakima, Gary graduated from West Valley High School in 1968, and was known among his classmates and community as a basketball star. After high school Gary attended Whitworth College in Spokane before transferring to Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. In 1976 Gary graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Elementary Education. He would reside in Idaho for the remainder of his life.
On March 13, 1976, Gary married the love of his life, Marti Darlene Davison. The couple exchanged vows at Whitney Methodist Church in Boise, Idaho. The two moved to Gooding, Idaho and later to Middleton, Idaho where Gary spent several years teaching 5th and 6th grades. In 1979, Gary and Marti purchased property in Caldwell, Idaho and would make it their permanent home. In 1981, the couple had a daughter, Crysi and in 1984 their son Nick was born. When the children were young, Gary took time from teaching to care for the home front and work to develop his business, Hidden Hollow Apiary. He spent many delightful hours with his children and his "buzzing buddies."
In 1986, Gary survived a near fatal car accident. Gary's innate drive and positive determination led to a progressive recovery over the years. In June 2001 he was able to celebrate 25 years of marriage to his beloved Marti. Their family marked the event with a garden anniversary party which included a multitude of longtime friends. This event continued to be a favorite memory of Gary's.
The nature of the injuries Gary sustained in the accident caused him to age rapidly. The family continues to feel fortunate for the 28 additional years of love and support that Gary was blessed to be able to provide. By November of 2013 Gary required around the clock care. With the great help of Rhonda Ellis, a dear friend of the family, Gary was able to extend his time in the home he and his wife both loved.
Gary is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marti, his father Lyman, his daughter Crysi (Jeremy) Wilson, his son Nick Neubauer, grandchildren Mason, Devin and Kierra Wilson. He is also survived by his brother Chuck (Barb) Neubauer, his sisters; Joann (Greg) Peterson and Cathy (Don) Jameson, sisters-in-law Deanna (Frank) Aichele and Jewel Davison, many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog, Max. Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Lois Neubauer, brother-in-law, Harold Davison and his mother and father-in-law, Lloyd and Ethel Davison.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Rhonda Ellis, XL Hospice and Ashley Manor in Middleton, ID for their kind and loving care of Gary in his final year of life.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, ID. A celebration of life and farewell gathering will take place at Gary and Marti's home upon conclusion of the service. Condolences to the family can be sent to
