Harvey Rollie (Butch) Blank
May 18, 1943 - January 26, 2013
Harvey found peace on January 26, 2013 in Caldwell, Idaho at the age of 69. Harvey was born in Ontario, Oregon on May 18, 1943 to Harvey Nathan Blank and Bertha Jane Stephens.
Harvey grew up in Weiser, Idaho until his family moved to Fossil, Oregon where there he attended school playing football, basketball, and his favorite sport BASEBALL. He graduated from Wheeler County, Fossil, Oregon in 1961. Following graduation, he met and married Linda. They had two children, Travis and Tracy. Harvey and his family settled in Caldwell, Idaho in 1976.
Harvey had numerous jobs and hobbies, including running horses at Le Bois track and county circuits. Anyone who knew Harv knew that his life was built around "the love of the game" (BASEBALL). He coached from little league up through the American Legion program, coaching the Legion Bobcats in 1979 and the Caldwell Silver Streaks up through 1987. In 1984, Harvey led his boys of summer to a state championship and moved on to the American Legion Baseball Northwest Regional tournament in Roseburg, Oregon. The prosperous season came to close with the best season ever by a Caldwell club going 53-15. Before Harvey left the ballpark to board the bus for the last time that season, he had one more feeling toward the season: "I'm thrilled to death."
Harvey found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports from soccer, football, basketball, softball and baseball. There was never a dull moment in the crowd while Harv was there. "Come on zebra!" "That plate ain't round Blue!" "Shake your head Blue, your eyes are stuck!" Harvey could always give advice and joke with everyone he came into contact with. You could always find him at a Caldwell or Vallivue ballgame and he will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Everyone who knew him has a funny story about him for sure.
Harvey is survived by two sons Travis (Teresa Yost) Blank, Tom (Wendy) Mehiel, a daughter Tracy (Tice) Gabbard, two brothers Bob Allen and Richard Allen, one sister Sue Lynn Eversole, former daughter-in-law and friend Lisa Hammer, four grandsons Derek (Kristen) Hoffman, Nathan Blank, Cody Blank, and Roy Wade, one granddaughter Jessie Smith, one great granddaughter Bailey Mae, former spouse, loving friend, mother of his children Linda Blank, a significant other of four years Mary Envolson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Nathan Blank, his mother Bertha Jane Stephens, a brother Charles Allen, a step-father Vincent Allen, grandparents and close aunts and uncles.
We miss and love you dad, grandpa, papa, brother, and friend. "Go Play Ball!"
"When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room -why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we shared. Miss me and let me go, for this is the journey we all must take with God. It's all part of the master plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to friends and family you know and love. Bury your sorrows in God's love and grace. Then, miss me, but let me go." (Author Unknown)
