Clarence M. "MIke" Holm
November 23, 1925 - April 12, 2013
Mike Holm, 87, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on April 12 in Mesa, Arizona, after a brief illness.
Mike was born November 23, 1925, in Litchfield, Nebraska, the only child of Clarence and Mabel Lund Holm. Upon high school graduation in 1944 he told his farmer parents, "I'm off to the Navy and don't plan to farm when I get back." Serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, Mike was stationed aboard the USS Chikaskia, an oil tanker providing fuel to the U.S. battleships in the South Pacific. One of the proudest days of his life was visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington DC in April 2011 as part of an Honor Flight of WWII veterans.
Following his Navy service, Mike returned home to Nebraska and on June 17, 1948, married Joyce Elaine Wright. Although he never returned to the farm, his career was always farm-related starting as a salesman of farm equipment in Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Mike and Joyce had three children, Tim, Julie, and Tom, and brought their young family to Pocatello in December 1960 when Mike transferred from sales to manager of the warehouse for Farmhand, Inc., located at the Pocatello airport. During his 52 years in Pocatello Mike enjoyed hunting, motorcycling, motorhoming, and golfing, and was a member of BPOE #674, American Legion Post 4, and the Central Christian Church.
After retiring in 1991, Mike and Joyce began spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they continued an active life of golf, card games, and other fun activities with many friends.
Mike was known for his big smile and a special ability to spread happiness all around him. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, sons Tim and Tom and daughter-in-law Joy Holm of Pocatello, daughter Julie and son-in-law Harold Burton of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren Shawn and Danielle Holm, Jennifer Cardenas, and Rick Neifert of Pocatello, and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of Mike's life will be held at the Central Christian Church in Pocatello on Saturday, June 15, at 2 o'lclock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to the Central Christian Church (918 East Center) or American Legion Post 4 ( 300 Johnson Avenue) in Pocatello, ID 83201 , or Honor Flight Network (300 E.
