James Ralph Sorenson
TWIN FALLS - James Ralph Sorenson, 61, of Twin Falls, Idaho, was killed in a car accident on June 12, 2010. Not surprisingly, he was with is faithful companion, the family dog, Remington, on the way back from a fishing trip.
He was born to James and Martha Sorenson in Boise, ID on April 7th, 1949. He grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, with his sister, Nancy. He attended Highland High School, where he played basketball, football, and ran track. After graduating, he moved on to attend Idaho State University. He joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated from the ROTC program with a degree in business marketing. It was during these years that he also made some of his dearest friends with whom he stayed in touch and treasured until his passing. It was also when he met the love of his life, Kathy Behrend, who he soon married.
He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and mechanic, and was stationed in Korea, among other places. After rising to the rank of captain, Jim left the service and returned to his native Idaho and became a tire salesman. It was said that when dealing with Jim you would not only get a good deal on the product and services you wanted, but would likely make a friend and get a fishing trip out of the deal as well.
After he retired, Jim continued to nurture his love of Idaho's geography, which he passed on to his sons. He spent all the time he could exploring our mountain streams right up to the day of the accident which took his life.
Jim is survived by his mother, Martha Becker; his sister, Nancy Sorenson; his wife, Kathy Sorenson, their sons, James and Jeff, and a grandson, Jimmy, as well as countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Sylvester Sorenson.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held as a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 161 Sixth Ave. East, Twin Falls, with Fr. Mike St. Marie as celebrant. The rosary service will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
Military honors by the Magic Valley Veterans Association and Idaho National Guard. Services are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be given in Jim's name to the St. Edward's Soup Kitchen, where Jim volunteered his time. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to Reynolds Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1142, Twin Falls, Idaho 83303.
