Lois M. Tripp
April 12, 1925 - July 2, 2013
Lois Tripp, age 88, passed away quietly on July 2, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah of causes related to age. Lois was born on April 12, 1925 in Oakland, California to Florence Nellie Heusted and Archibald Clarke. Her parents divorced early and Lois was raised by her mother and loving, Cajun stepfather Claude Rockford (Rocky) Moss with whom she was very close. Lois grew up living in many places with her parents, including Oakland, CA, Port Arthur, TX, Galveston, TX, Independence, MO, and Salt Lake City, UT. As a young girl in Salt Lake, Lois met her future husband Alan Bryce Tripp, before moving back to Texas. Lois later returned to Salt Lake and married Alan on September 6th, 1947. Lois and Alan lived in Salt Lake City, UT; Wallace, ID; Elko, NV; Phoenix, AZ; and Boise, ID, as they pursued his career as a mining and civil engineer.
Lois was a person of varied interests. She had a lifelong interest in and talent for sewing and needlework (especially needlepoint). Her home was graced by her beautiful creations. She studied the German language on her own and through continuing education classes at Boise State University. Later in life she became an avid reader of American Civil War history and was a fan of Shelby Foote and James McPherson. She was also an incredible, self-taught cook, whose steamed Christmas puddings, among other recipes, were legendary.
Lois was courageous and fiercely independent despite having contracted polio when she was 16 years old. Although on crutches, Lois took care of a house and yard and raised two sons even while her husband was often away from home because of work. Lois had a positive, sunny disposition and only seemed sad when her friends had serious problems. She always found the good in people and treated everyone with love and kindness. Lois lived independently until the last 18 months of her life.
Lois was a warm, generous, caring person who made good friends everywhere that she lived. She had particularly warm feelings toward her stepfather's family in Port Arthur, TX and the friends she made during her time in Texas. She kept in touch with her Texas relatives and friends her entire life.
Lois is survived by two children Alan C. (Alice) Tripp, and Bryce T. (Carol) Tripp; and by her granddaughters Lindsey A. Tripp and Erin S. Tripp. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
