Lynn Cundick Obituary

Lynn Ray Cundick, age 68, peacefully passed away at home August 13, 2010 in Boise, Idaho from a very rare type of cancer. Lynn was born to Elmer Ray Cundick and Emma Ruth Nielsen on June 25, 1942 In Murray, Utah. At age two his family moved to Nephi, Utah and again at age 8 his father was transferred to Vernal, Utah where he spent the rest of his youth. Lynn served a 2-year mission for the LDS Church in the New England States Mission. He greatly loved and admired his mission President, Truman G. Madsen who was a great LDS author and scholar. Lynn started working for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1968 after receiving his Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. Over the 31 years he worked for them the company eventually became Qwest from which he retired in 1999. After a few years of retirement, he was hired as Executive Director for United Cerebral Palsy and later as Interim CEO of Neighborhood Housing Services. He was active in the community and served on over 17 boards of directors, many in leadership positions including the Salvation Army, Boise Chamber of Commerce, Buy Idaho and the Telephone Pioneers. Until two weeks before his death he served on the Board of Directors of Idaho Advantage Credit Union. He was appointed by Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus as the first Chairman of the Idaho Information Technology Council. A unique highlight for Lynn and his family was his selection by the nationally recognized Conference Board to participate with 11 other businessmen from throughout the country as a business representative working in the United States Congress. Lynn served on the Washington D. C. staff of Senator Lloyd Bentsen from Texas. During this time the family took a 2000 miles trip through the New England states enjoying many historical sites and visiting areas where he served a mission for the LDS church. The memories of this vacation were talked about frequently by Lynn and his family. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was privileged to serve in several capacities which allowed him to work and interact with people, which was something he enjoyed. Lynn had a high level of integrity, responsibility, and leadership, along with great values and morals that had a lasting impact on loved ones and friends near and far. Lynn was married to Janice Dorothy Sudweeks of Kimberly, ID in 1966 and they were the parents of five daughters and a son. Janice passed away from breast cancer in 1996. He then married Janeen Wallace LaMont in 1997 and she was the surviving spouse of a husband who also passed away from cancer. She has three daughters and a son. In 1998 they welcomed another daughter into the family which created a family of 11 children. Lynn's family was the center of his interests and many wonderful memories were built though camping, hiking, fishing and travelling. Even though his family is now located in different areas around the country, they got together frequently to enjoy good food and memorable, happy times enjoying each others' company. Lynn is survived by his spouse, Janeen Cundick, Meridian, three sisters: Kathy Lundberg (Steven), Pauline Smith (Dennis) and Annette Burdette (Steven), all of Salt Lake City, and 11 children: Michelle Wickard (Joshua), Kimberli Kennedy (Craig),Vanessa Blaser (Brett), Jennifer Krebs (Aaron), David Cundick (Stephanie), Elizabeth Meinzer (Ryan), Ryan LaMont, Krista LaMont Andrade (Jorge), Holly LaMont, Kelsey LaMont , Natalie Cundick and 20 grandchildren. I was saddened to hear of Mr. Cundick's passing. It was truly a pleasure to work with Lynn as part of his Public Policy team while at U S West Communications. An enthusiastic supporter of Telephone Pioneering, Lynn exemplified the Pioneer spirit of service in giving back to the community. He truly left this world a better place because of that commitment; but most assuredly, an endearing legacy as a remarkable and devoted husband, father and family man. My sincere sympathy to his wife, Janeen and his family.

I only formally met him on a few occasions but am good friends with his daughter, Kimberli. Through the amazing mother, wife, and friend she is, I knew he must have been a wonderful example and a tender loving father who left his legacy with his children and grandchildren.

Lynn was my boss at the phone company at one time. As we both moved on, our paths crossed many times and the relationship continued to be positive. I was always impressed with how much he continued to give back to the community whenever he had the opportunity to do so. He'll be missed. Our thoughts are with the family.

For a short time prior to his recent illness Lynn was Executive Director of the Idaho End-of-Life Coalition--a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting compassionate care at the end of life. During this time he brought energy and enthusiasm for our mission and was looking forward to opportunities to promote palliative care and hospice throughout Idaho. He will be greatly missed.
