Clayne's wife, Yvonne, lived next door to me. I first heard of him when he returned from Korea, a wounded Marine.
Years later, he introduced me to fly fishing. One beautiful fall day, I went fishing with Clayne and Phil Anderson on the Boise River's south fork. He had just bought an expensive graphite fly rod and was anxious or try it out. We were getting into Clayne's truck to move spots with all three fly rods sticking out of the back. I couldn't resist the opportunity to pull his chain so, I yelled out, "Hey, how did the tip of this grey fly rod get broken." I didn't realize he could react so fast.
Nostalgic memories like that are priceless, and so is his impact on my life.

Of all my father’s great friends Clayne Baker was always one of my favorites. I have so many childhood memories of the Warm Lake cabin, old float tubes, rubber waders, and Big Herbies!!! Clayne taught me so much about angling and fly tying in my youth( like how to pee out of a float tube)!!! I have used these skills everyday in my guiding career.
I will always remember Yvonne’s kindness and famous pancakes in the morning as well. Thank you both for giving me so many good memories!!!
RIP CLayne

Clayne and Yvonne have given so much to the Boise community and its youth. We first met Clayne when I visited him in his fly shop to learn about the Woolly Buggers club. That was in 1994 and our son (nearly 7 at that time) was crazy about fishing. Thus began a very special relationship. Our son went on to be a fly fishing guide for a few years and he continues to fly fish as often as time will allow (he's now 33). The gift Clayne gave to young fishermen (and women) was priceless. It will live on in those whose lives he taught and touched. We will always be grateful and thankful.

Clayne was a great promoter of the Boise Fly Fishers Organization. He also helped many people learn how to cast a fly and really enjoyed inventing new fly patterns. Clayne is a great loss the Fly Fishing community. He was always willing to help other fly fishermen improve their techniques. Clayne and Ken Magee introduced me to tube fishing in 1972. One of our favorite spots to cast was out at the Bruneau Dunes State Park.

I was president for the Woolly Buggers from 2010-2011. Clayne was a huge influence in my life and encouraged me to continue my passion for fly fishing. I now own my own fly shop and outfitting business in Montana. I will sure miss Clayne and hope his legacy lives on forever!!

Clayne Baker was a dear friend ,flyfisher extraordinaire, tied the most magnificent flys, could tell a joke like none other and his white Russians could make you fall out of bed and awake everyone at the cabin !
I cherise the memories spent at the cabin. Big breakfasts by Yvonne, then off went the fly fishers
for some solitude knowing that " there's more to fly fishing than catching fish", Clayne's motto.
So many hours he spent teaching all those boys and girls in his wooly bugger club the lessons they will keep in their memories forever . Yvonne, always at his side helping with the club's success.
He was a dashing and kind man that filled people's hearts with pride that they had the pleasure of calling him a friend.
I hear Phil calling his name from that best spot to fish in the clouds.
Love to Val and Buzz and the grandchildren.

A wonderful person I was privileged to know. Clayne loved children. He create Wooley Buggers and taught children his love , fly fishing. I remember the cabin his grandfather built at Warm Lake and Yvonne’s sourdough pancakes. He spread joy to all of those he encountered. My husband and Clayne shared a birthday albeit 32 years difference. We will miss him, but always keep his memories close by.

My sympathy to the Baker family. I had the privilege to fish with him and his beloved Wooly Buggers a few times. Such a gentleman, teacher and true role model. Everyone that met him is the better for it.

A beautiful man that gave my husband and I such happiness. I remember the Wooley Buggers and the love he had for children. His poems and drawings were fun and light hearted. I remember the cabin and sour dough pancakes. I will always remember him and know he is fishing new ponds now.
