Alene B. Smith Knox
1944-2018
With her daughters holding her hands, the angels came and took Alene away from us to be with our Lord and Savior on June 9, 2018, just over two weeks after her 74th birthday.
Alene was born in Turlock, California, the daughter of Albert & Beulah Smith. She grew up on a farm and spent much of her time with her beloved grandmothers Eliza Florence Pope, and Irene Jennie Smith. While in the 8th grade, she met the love of her life, Jerry Garland Knox. Their first date was at a Turlock High School basketball game. They dated for 4 years while she finished high school and he served in the United States Navy. They were married on June 16, 1962 at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Turlock, Ca. Their daughter Donna Lynne was born in 1963 and their daughter Cheryl Jayne was born in 1964.
Alene and her family lived in various cities in California, until moving to Idaho in Dec. 1979. Alene was a stay at home mom devoting her time to caring for her family. She liked to have warm chocolate chip cookies baked for her girls when they got home from school sew their school dresses, and she taught them how to ride a bike and drive a car. Alene was a very talented artist and so proud that one of her oil paintings was hung in the U.S. Pentagon. She loved to sew and make quilts for her family. She loved cats, and always seemed to have one sitting on her lap. She loved being out in the forest woodlands, so after her girls married and moved away, she worked for the sheriff's dept. as a deputy on boat patrol on Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County, Ca. that is close to Yosemite national park. She ended up moving back to Idaho in 1997, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren – her family was the center of her life. She enjoyed a very happy marriage to Jerry for 49 years until his death in 2011. Just one week prior to her death, she celebrated her birthday with her entire family in attendance – it was such a fun time, and will always be remembered as a special last birthday.
She was an avid Christian and it's comforting to know that she's no longer suffering, now re-united with her husband Jerry, the love of her life, and resting comfortably in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Beulah Smith, her husband Jerry Knox, her brother Jarold Smith, and her baby granddaughter Brandy Jayne Makovsky (from Cheryl).
She leaves behind her sister Joanne Spurlock, her two daughters Donna (Ralone) Makovsky & Cheryl Knox, her grandchildren Matthew (Brandon) Makovsky, Mark (Lacy) Makovsky (from Ralone & Donna), and Natalie (Rogelio) Ruiz, Mac (Jessica) Makovky (from Cheryl), along with 13 great grandchildren.
Many thanks all our supportive family and friends who helped care for her and sent up prayers along with re-assuring words for us, to the wonderful staff of 1st Choice Hospice for the incredible care and assistance to us caring for her the last few months of her life, and to Summers Funeral Home for assisting us to make final arrangements to commemorate Mom's life.
A graveside celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at 1pm at The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, in Boise Idaho.
Memories and condolences can be expressed to the family on Alene's memorial webpage on www.summersfuneral.com.
