I clearly remember playing touch football in JR's back yard growing up. Although built like a mountain, he never allowed us younger kids to get hurt. He was a VERY good man

JC as we called him, mentored and taught and coached out TARC team with myself and Mr. Stoddard at Galileo middle school in Eagle for the past 10 years. He was an inspiration to me as I watched him patiently working with the students teaching them about life and rockets. JC was excited about getting back to his team after spending the winter in Yuma. We talked each day the past couple of weeks trying to figure out how we were going to qualify for Nationals again this year. JC helped our team place 13 in the nation last year in our TARC competition. The students and I will be forever indebted to his shared wisdom and love. We will miss you JC and would like to dedicate the remainder of our season to you and your Legacy as a rocketeer and teacher. God bless you and Kathy and your family.

Mr. Worthen (even at 46, I could never bring myself to call him JC) was a fantastic teacher. After working for hours on my model rocket and successfully launching it, he let me tape the nose cone shut because it would be awesome to watch....and maybe learn something? :-)

He was a kind man and greeted students at the door, waving them in. His presence was a tad foreboding but only because we were all shorter than him at age 14 and 15. He supported me in my athletics, coming out to watch games and track meets. He helped build sets for his wife's music group (that my mom was in as well) and so I got to hang out with him outside of school too.

Mr Worthen also told me that computers were the future. His passion for technology was surpassed only by his love to learn and teach. I now work with computers and technology as well.

He was a great guy and left his mark on my life, still, 35 years later.

It's been a week and I'm still in shock.
I want to go have breakfast with my old friend.
I want to come sit in the rocket shed and build something.
I want to watch you teach kids about rocketry again.

You are missed.

In the 70's at North Jr. High, you were the science teacher that everyone hoped to be in your class. You engaged students and made us want to learn more. You made science fun. With your quick wit and twinkling eyes, we knew you were having fun too. Rest in Peace, Mr. Worthen. My sincere condolences to your family.

JC was a good friend and we had some good experiences together over the years, waterskiing, church, chasing girls, and a lot of good clean, sometimes mischievous, fun. Thank JC for being my friend. My condolences to his wife Kathy and his family.

Thank you coach Worthen for a few good memories back in my youth at North Jr HS in the 70's. You were you a good coach and a great teacher & when I disrupted your class you taught me respect with that big paddle that had air condition holes & I've never forgotten that. RIP coach

JC and I were friends in all of our years in school. We saw each other some place in Boise and had a wonderful chin fest about our life adventures. He did have an interesting life and I am so fortunate to have had the time with him. Karleane Hammond S.....☺
