Jerold D. Bishop Obituary
Jerold D. Bishop
1960 - 2018
Jerry Bishop was born on May 30, 1960, in Boise, Idaho, the youngest child of five born to John and Marjorie (Fackrell) Bishop (both deceased). He succumbed to his battle with cancer at his home in Boise, Idaho, on September 4, 2018.
As the little brother, Jerry was the endearing mischief maker of the family. He had the ability to make people smile from a young age, and this continued until the end. He attended school at Koelsch Elementary, Fairmont Junior High, and graduated from Capital High School (class of 1979), all in Boise.
Jerry married Julie Denkers on September 8, 1984, in Utah. He immersed himself in family life while in Utah, including building projects, travel and adventure. He was a devoted father whose children consider him their rock and who taught them many life lessons. Although Julie and he later divorced, they both felt that their children, Ashley and Matt, were, as Julie put it, "our greatest accomplishment in life." When his children were grown he left Salt Lake City and returned to Boise to be among family and friends.
As a young man, Jerry worked on the oil rigs, then later as a Realtor in Salt Lake City. However, most of his adult life was spent as a master woodcrafter, making beautiful custom furniture and kitchen cabinetry. He enjoyed horseback riding, travel (especially to Sun Valley and the Lowman area), good friends (of whom he was blessed with many), and motorcycles. He was a dog lover extraordinaire. Jerry was passionate about old cars. He was able to rebuild many cars, and one of the things he was most disappointed about was the inability caused by his disease to finish all of his projects.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his siblings Janelle (Tom) Owings, Jack (Cathy) Bishop, Jody (Bob) McQuade, and Julie (Ron) Johnston, all of Boise, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his Aunt Katie Fackrell; also Uncle Jim and Aunt Sally Bishop. He is also survived by many loyal friends including Lyndon (who helped him so much in his last weeks), Monty, Myra, Les, and others. He is also survived by his sweet old dog Charlie. We as a family are grateful for the many kindnesses of friends both old and new.
Jerry requested no funeral and will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held during an open house on Saturday, September 15, between two and five o'clock on the patio at Louie's, located at 2500 E. Fairview Avenue in Meridian. Come join with us and share a favorite Jerry story.
