Kathleen Longstroth Obituary
Kathleen Fern (Livermore) Longstroth died April 11, 2018 at her home in Boise, ID at the age of 88. She was born and raised in Burwell, NB to Fay and Fern (Hesslergesser) Livermore. Kathy was the second youngest of 9 children. She was a cheerleader at the University of Nebraska, majoring in Home Economics. She met the love of her life when, Lt. A. Gill Longstroth, came to Burwell dig out after a blizzard. They married in August of 1950 before Gill deployed to Korea.
As an officer's wife, Kathy made their home in many states and countries. Kathy and Gill loved Boise. It was their top choice for retirement. When bad things happened in the world, she always said: 'I am glad we live in Boise!'
Family was the focus of her life. She raised 4 children, enjoyed 4 grandchildren and welcomed 2 great grandchildren. Sundays meant a big dinner with family favorite recipes.
Kathy was passionate about her community. She was an Ada County Deputy of Elections for 40 years. She was adept at bridge, and played in many groups. She was a member of Sojourners, and Boise Basin Quilters. For many years, Kathy hosted a group of quilters in her home. Kathy gifted family members and friends with her lovely quilts. She was an excellent crafter and excelled in the arts of Homemaking. Her other hobbies were cooking, gardening, walking and collecting.
Kathy was known for her love of the color red. Her wardrobe, quilt fabrics, art, and especially Christmas showcased the color 'red'. She loved everything 'red' including her nightly glass of wine. Kathy was proceeded in death by her husband, Gill, son Paul, and daughter Marilyn. She is survived by her sister Marilyn (Ohio), Son Mark, (Kim) grandchildren John and Vivi of Kalamazoo, son Michael of Boise, Grandsons Robert and Will (Jessica), great grandchildren Lily and Paul. Plus many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Morris Hill Cemetery by the flagpole in the Veterans section. A potluck reception will follow at her home at 2722 Malibu Rd.
