Kay Yamamoto
1926 - 2018
Kay Yamamoto, 91, of Caldwell, Idaho passed away on April 6, 2018 at home with his family by his side. Kay was born in Nampa, Idaho on July 21, 1926. After attending Greenhurst Elementary, he graduated from Nampa High School in 1944. Kay began farming south of Nampa before purchasing land in Caldwell where he would make his home. He married Frances Yonemura on December 14, 1947, celebrating over 70 years together.
After he retired at the age of 55, his son,Victor, continued operating the family farm. Kay and Fran were able to travel around the country in their motor home, visiting all of the western states and Canada. They eventually settled in Casa Grande, Arizona, building a home on the golf course at Mission Royale where they were snowbirds for over 25 years.
Kay loved fishing, shooting pool and playing cards with friends. His real passion was playing golf, and he had 6 holes-in-one during his lifetime. Kay was known wherever he went for his clever one-liners and infectious laugh. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner who enjoyed discussing current events.
Kay is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, Victor (Jeanne) Yamamoto of Caldwell; a daughter, Toni Cavanaugh of Pocatello; Granddaughters, Stacey Stewart (Jim) of Boise; Amy Yamamoto-Pedersen (Blake) of Seattle; Emily Kotowski (Barrett) of Salt Lake City; Christina Cavanaugh of Pocatello; Great Grandchildren, Ben and Nick Stewart and Dignan and Wren Pedersen; Sister, Mae Yamaki of Virginia; Brother Archie (Marlene) Yamamoto of Nampa and numerous nieces and nephews.
