Rosemary Williams Obituary
Rosemary Jean Williams
1942 ~ 2018
On September 5, 1942, the La Grande Observer newspaper noted a newsworthy event that a baby girl was born to August and Delta Zaugg of Union, Oregon. She was the first daughter in a family of all boys.
Rosemary was born on September 4, 1942. She spent her early years on the family farm, where she developed a love for horses. She graduated from Union High School, where she was a rodeo princess. She attended Brigham Young University for two years prior to serving an LDS church mission in Bavaria, Germany. She returned to BYU to study German, and through a family friend met her husband to be, James Dennis "J.D." Williams of Malad City, Idaho. On August 18, 1967, the day after they both graduated from college, they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
They moved to Washington, D.C., where J.D. attended law school. While living there they had two daughters. After returning back to Idaho, they spent two years in Boise before making their home in Preston, Idaho for 14 years, where two more daughters were born. In 1989 J.D. was appointed State Auditor by Governor Cecil D. Andrus, which caused the family to move to Boise, where they have enjoyed living for the past 29 years.
Being a wife and mother was Rosemary's top priority, and she excelled at it. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She was a very talented painter like her mother. She enjoyed reading and traveling with her husband. In her later years, she spent many hours with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was an active member in the LDS church and had a profound impact on many lives, particularly her husband, daughters and grandchildren.
After a two-and-a-half-year battle with ALS, Rosemary passed away at home Sunday evening, June 10, 2018 surrounded by her husband and family.
She is survived by her husband, J.D., her four daughters: Leslie (Paul) Faulkner of Boise, ID; Jennifer (Erik) Dodd of Rigby, ID; Becky (Jeff) Brown of Ewa Beach, HI; and Mandy (Bryce) Hutchison of Boise, ID. Also 12 grandchildren: Saxon, Cameron, Baylee, Emily, Lindsey, Caden, Nash, Gavin, Tyler, Rylee, Tristan, and Logan.
She is also survived by all five of her brothers: Stuart (Jo) Zaugg of Union, OR; Waldo (Phyllis) Zaugg of Cook, WA; Lyal (Joyce) Zaugg of Hayden Lake, ID; Rollin (Sheri) Zaugg of Sandy, OR; and Noel (Michelle) Zaugg of Springville, UT. Also J.D.'s sister, Janice (Richard) Goddard of Malad City, ID and brother, Dan Williams of Bandon, OR.
Her family would like to thank those who helped care for her during the last few months of her life; home care providers from Comfort Keepers, particularly Peggy Owen, and the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Hospice. They did a remarkable job.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at the Boise West LDS Stake Center, 3700 S. Maple Grove Rd., Boise, with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery immediately following the service.
