Virginia Mankins Obituary
Virginia Ellen Dougall Mankins
Virginia Ellen Dougall Mankins of Boise, ID and formerly from Santa Maria, CA returned to our Heavenly Father on May 8, 2018 at the age of 91. Ginny (mom) was born in San Diego, CA on November 21, 1926. She was number seven of 11 children born to Leslie Parker Dougall and Jessie Dean Donaldson. She married young and became the mother of three children who she raised mostly as a single parent.
In 1962, she moved from San Diego to Santa Maria. In 1973, she married James C. Mankins. James was the owner of a ranch in Suey Creek Canyon. Mom quickly adapted to being a rancher's wife. She helped with the haying, taking care of the farm animals, gardening and other necessary chores around the farm. She became well known for her skill at canning the many fruits and vegetables raised on the farm. She also became interested in genealogy and spent countless hours researching family history. Ginny loved her family above all else and was forever reminiscing about them. She loved her many nieces and nephews by whom she was called by a variety of names (Aunt Ellie, Aunt Ginny, Aunt Virginia or Aunt Ginger!)
She was always looking for ways to help others. She truly loved the youth and many young people called her mom and their Santa Maria Grandma and she became a true friend to them.
Ginny was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout the years. She had a great testimony of the Savior and was known by Him.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her parents; all of her siblings, except for one; and a great-grandson. She is survived by her brother Keith Dougall (Joyce) of Tucson, AZ; her son Terry Lee Miller (Dorothy) of West Valley City, UT; son Charles Thomas Miller of Palmdale, CA; her daughter Patricia Miller Petty (Tom) of Middleton, ID; stepson John Carlton Mankins (Katie) of Santa Maria, CA and Stepdaughter Rebecca Mankins Chapin (Norman) of Fountain, CO. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grands!
Mom, we will always remember and cherish the memories we have of you. Your amazing life will live on in the hearts of all you touched. We love you, miss you and look forward to the day that we are reunited.
In lieu of flowers, Mom would love it if you did an act of Kindness or make a donation to or church.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery, 895 El Camino Real in Arroyo Grande, CA 93420 Condolences may be expressed at zeyerfuneralchapel.com.
A special thank you to the caregivers, nurses, doctors, and all who worked tirelessly to make mom's last years and especially her last days happy and comfortable. An extra special thank you for the respect and care given by Zeyer Funeral Chapel. May God bless you all.
