LeAnn Emry Obituary

LeAnn Christina Emry, age 24 at the time of death, of Centennial, Colo., lost her life on Jan. 29, 2003 in Southern Utah. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Feb. 9, 2010 at the Church of the Nazarene, Payette. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. LeAnn was born in Weiser, Idaho on March 24, 1978 to Howard and Darlene (Bartoschek) Emry. Her first seven years of her life were spent in Idaho. In 1985, she moved with her family to Denver, Colo. She graduated from Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colo. a year early and enrolled in Arapahoe Community College preparing for a career in physical therapy. After completing two years, however, she decided that she could help animals more than people, and became a veterinarian technician at a no-kill animal shelter. While in school, she loved science and music, sang in the high school choir, and preformed many solos in church. Upon graduation, she received an award from President Clinton for her outstanding community service as a volunteer at the University of Colorado Medical Center and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. She loved animals, the outdoors, and camping. She was a volunteer of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science as a field worker, a member of the Colorado Grotto Society and an avid caver. She loved the challenge of exploring caves in her spare time. LeAnn also enjoyed fossil hunting, singing, pottery, horseback riding and making stories out of campfire embers. The highlight of her life was receiving Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1994 while at a church retreat. She attended the Church of the Nazarene, was a member of Girl Scouts of America, High School Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Sorority. LeAnn had a compassionate heart, especially toward those less fortunate than herself. LeAnn is survived by her parents, Howard and Darlene Emry; her sister, Michelle Emry; her grandfather, Ed Bartoschek; uncles and aunts, Alvin and Ella Mae, Larry, Kenneth and Nancy Bartoschek and Jan Emry; cousins, Grant and Heather Emry and Crystal Bartoschek. Memorials may be made to The Humane Society, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
