Stephen "Steve" Southard
1940 ~ 2016
Stephen (Steve) Ward Southard passed away peacefully at home in Meridian, Idaho on Monday, November 28, 2016. He was 76 years old. Steve was born to Jack and Mary Elizabeth Southard on October 14, 1940 in Berwyn, Illinois.
When Steve was ten years old, he saved his mother and brother from a house fire. This experience would influence his career later in life.
On February 27, 1959, Steve enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31). He was honorably discharged on February 26, 1965.
On November 8, 1959, he married Pamela Lee Wahl. They had three beautiful daughters, Sharon, Tammy, and Sandy Southard. Steve and Pam were married until her passing on December 18, 1977.
On December 9, 1995, he married Connie Sue Hedrick, his "partner in crime" and fellow movie-watching fanatic.
Steve served as a firefighter, Fire Inspector, and Fire Marshal for the Boise City Fire Department during his ten-year career from 1972-1982. He owned his own fire research company from 1982-1985. He then worked as the Parts and Support Equipment Manager for Arnold Machinery Company from 1985 until his retirement in 2006.
Steve is survived by his spouse, Connie Southard; his daughters, Sharon Mace (Eagle) and husband Shane, Tammy Darling (Eagle) and husband Scott, and Sandy Theiss (Star) and husband Tim; his grandchildren, Nick Jennings, Halli Mace, and Erica Darling; and his great-grandson, Bryson; his sister, Susan (Suzie) Brokaw and husband Mike; his niece, Alena; and nephew, Chris; his brother-in-law, Pete Smith; his stepdaughter, Cami Hill; and granddaughter, Emma Hill. He also leaves behind, Darby, the Puggle. Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Southard.
Steve loved his daughters dearly. He enjoyed gatherings filled with family, friends, fun, laughter, and delicious food. He enjoyed strumming on his acoustic guitar. He is known for his sense of humor, stubbornness, love of music, and cooking up crazy-named dishes (Involtini di Bestecche), his affinity for the Pacific Ocean, his appreciation of seafood, and his mad-BBQing skills. For all of this, and so much more (because there are not enough adjectives to describe this amazing man), Steve will be dearly missed: navy man, firefighter, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Steve's name to the Boise Fire Department.
Steve requested that his ashes be spread on the Pacific; no public service will be held.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Harrison's Hope Hospice for their professionalism and tenderness in their care of Steve.

Never forgotten, life brings tears, smiles, and memories. Our tears dry, the smile fades, but the memories live on forever.
