Anne W. Toothaker
August 22, 1946 - January 4, 2018
In the comfort of her home, surrounded by family, Anne left this existence while listening to "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog" (Joy to the World). Anne was a unique individual. She always greeted strangers with a "good morning" or "hello", believing in civility. She knew Boise was growing when people stopped waving at each other in their cars. It was important to Anne everyone be kind because "you never know what someone else's day is like".
Traveling by plane she always sat in the middle seat and would not recline so the stranger behind her would have enough room. She had an office without a window, it was her perspective it was always sunny outside.
Anne was born in Lorain Ohio. She grew up Catholic with 3 younger brothers. She described herself as a lapsed Catholic, and egalitarian for all religions. She graduated from nursing school in 1967 second to last in her class, "thus proving no one should ever give up". She worked as a nurse in Cleveland where she met her husband, Jeffrey. They were married forty-eight years. Anne and Jeff enjoyed each other, the outdoors and taking extended road trips. They rode motorcycles across country multiple times, she rode a 1970 BMW R60/5, with their first to Idaho in 1970. In 1972 they made Boise their home.
Anne worked as a nurse from Psych to Intensive Care. She was politically active and volunteered her time to organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Women's and Children's Alliance and Refugees of Boise. She was a registered Republican and a member of the NRA. "Take them down from the inside".
She ran The Race to Robie Creek multiple times and was a life-long member of the YMCA. As an avid reader she enjoyed the Log Cabin. Her favorite magazines were The New Yorker, The Economist and The Atlantic.
Anne leaves behind her husband, Jeffrey; children, Adam Toothaker, Sam and Scott Thielen, James and Sarah Warner, and Carrie Murri; grandchildren Emery and Augustus; nieces and nephews, Steve and Martha, Seth and Tracey and Ben.

I was so sorry to hear of Anne' s passing in January. I got to know Anne during our high school years at St. Mary's in Lorain. She was so smart, and such a nice person.
My sympathy goes out to her family and friends. May your many happy memories bring you peace.

I just heard the sad news. I loved Anne and had the pleasure of doing her hair for the last 5 or 6 years. I will miss her sweet spirit! She was always such a ray of sunshine!

What a wonderful Memorium! We only wish we could have known Anne better. If we could afford the cab fare, we'd sure be there, but we will be thinking of you all as you celebrate the life of a very special woman.
Our love to you all,

One of my fond memories of when we first moved to Boise was meeting your Mom and Linda Kline and your families at Saint Michael's Cooperative Preschool. I loved hearing your Mom's laughter and I loved, as a teacher, having her and your Dad assist as "parent helper." You were all just FUN to have around! I'd see Anne periodically over the decades--the last time being early this summer. And(as I told Anne), I would enjoy reading her occasional forthright letters to the editor over the years. Always engaged, caring, creative, fun and honest--that was Anne to me. We will all miss her very much! To you, her family:Anne was very proud of all of you!

As I watched Anne say goodbye to her mom in September, my heart broke. As I watched her answer the numerous phone calls on her 71st birthday this past August, I was reminded of the many people who loved her. And as I learned of the immense love she had for you, Jeff, Sam, Adam, James, and all of her entire family, my heart swelled with admiration and the utmost respect for a most remarkable, kind, generous, sensitive, and caring woman. I do believe that as one person wrote, "she walks with the angels." May you know her peace, Jeff.

You didn't have to know Anne long to realize she was a caring, positive person with a great sense of humor and self. We met through her Mom in Lorain and I felt an immediate connection. Even with her own health issue to deal with, she (and Jeffrey) were here often to help her. My condolences to Jeff and all the family. Blessings

My thoughts go out to you and your family. I am one of Anne's fellow nursing school classmates who missed seeing her at our recent class reunion. I know you know just how special of a person she was. So glad she is at peace now

One of my favorite people is talking walks with the angels. ALWAYS giving, insightful, caring, knowledgeable, encouraging, and funny. Anne was devastated knowing she would not be able to travel on roadtrips in retirement and grow old together with Jeff, not see her kids grow older and miss out on seeing her grandsons growing up. Knowing Anne, she will be guiding from above. My heart is with Jeff, Adam, Sam, Scott, James, Sarah, Carrie, Emery, Augustus, Seth,Stacey, the entire family and all her many friends. I will love her and miss her - ALWAYS.
