Wayne Berry Obituary

Wayne C. Berry
1932 ~ 2018
Wayne C. Berry, 86, left us for an important tee time on the 19th hole in the sky, Friday October 5th, 2018.
Wayne was the middle child of Floyd and Emma Berry from La Grande, Oregon.
He met the love of his life "Billie Lou" in high school. They laughed, loved, lived, golfed and traveled for 68 years of married life.
Wayne lived a charmed life and excelled at all he did. He lettered in all four sports and was a "Hall of Famer" at La Grande High School. He was recruited in college and played football for four years at Washington State University. Drafted by the New York Giants in 1954, he played in ten NFL games as a defensive half back. His coaches were Lombardi, Noll, and Landry.
Loving golf since college, he became the IGA's director in 1980 before joining the PGA Tour as a rules official in 1991. He became Tour Director of what was originally called the Ben Hogan Tour and retired on the Nike Tour in 1998. He was very proud to bring the PGA Boise Albertson's Tournament home every year.
As a close family, Wayne and Billie liked to admit their greatest gift is their family.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Billie; sister Patricia Shields; daughters, Chris Lawrence (David) and Karen Frans (Jim); son K. Wayne Berry (Joanne). Also survived by his grandchildren; Kellee Rassau, Ryan Gaston (Liz), Brian Ponder (Brittany), Dustin Ponder (Amber), Nick Berry (Pamela), and Jacob Frans; great grandchildren; Kristopher, Austin, Lucas, Wayne, Karl Jr., Caitlyn, Titus, Tyler and Avery.
Celebration of Life will be held on October 23rd, 2018 at Banbury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho from 2:00pm-4:00pm. We would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Bucar, MISTI in Meridian and our home guardian angels Sheryl, Tammy, and Rob.

Billie, I'm sorry for your loss. I remember you saying that your husband was a PGA tour official.
Sounds like he had a good life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Wayne was so highly regarded by the golfing community all over the country. Always known as being very intelligent, fair and funny (as a rules official NECESSARY talent!). He will will be missed......Scott Masingill, Payette
