Dorothy Ansotegui Obituary

Dorothy Inchausti Ansotegui
1930 ~ 2019
Dorothy's life well lived on earth, ended with her death on January 15, 2019. She truly loved people and they truly loved her.
Dorothy Inchausti was born at the Urresti Boarding House in Mackay, Idaho on August 22, 1930, to David Inchausti and Maria Epifania Inchausti Lamiquis. The family lived at the Drake ranch until 1934 when they moved to Pocatello and Jerome, finally settling in Hailey in March of 1936. She grew up in Hailey in a family of 7: Maria Rosario, Dorothy, Maria Luisa, Josefina, Juanita, David, and Julia. She took on, in large part, a responsibility for raising her brother and sisters because her father David owned and ran the Gem Bar and her mother Epifania cooked large dinners for their boarders and the public.
She was 18 when she met her husband Domingo in July of 1948, when he came to Hailey to play the accordion for a dance with his good friend, Jim Jausoro. He walked her home from the dance and she knew immediately that he was the one. They were married on July 2, 1950, in Hailey. Domingo and Dorothy had 5 children: Bonnie, Christine, Gina, Daniel, and Toni. They raised their children with a focused importance on their Basque heritage and culture, on hard work, honesty, love, and gratitude. When Domingo died in 1984, Dorothy spent the rest of her life loving her children and their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters and brother, nieces and nephews, her many many friends, and her career at Sacred Heart Church.
We will remember big dinners at her small home, her support of her children's dreams and ventures, her wonderful way with each grandchild and great grandchild, her love and acceptance of everyone, and her rosy outlook on life. We will also remember her humor, her love of cards and games with anyone willing to play, the dignity and good humor with which she accepted life's circumstances, and her warm home full of life and love. It gave her tremendous joy to be around her family and friends.
She shared our laughter and tears, gave us the confidence to trust ourselves, and showed us strength, love, and selflessness. We have a million different memories of her love, and we will always hold her in our hearts. One of her greatest gifts was that she always, always, made everyone feel special.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Dave) Kerns, Christine, Gina, Dan (Tamara) Ansotegui, and Toni Ansotegui (Alberto Bereziartua), her grandchildren Nikki Kerns, Ryan Patxi (Naomi) Kerns, Itxaso (Tom) Richards, Olaia Urquidi Beals (Kevin Beals), Isana Urquidi, Eneko Bereziartua, Nickolas Ansotegui, Ellen Ansotegui, Naomi Shapiro, and Gavriel Shapiro, her great grandchildren Patxi Casey, Kepa Txomin, and Maialen Epifania Bentz, and Kian David, Lucas Paul, and Molly Louise Kerns, her sisters Josephine (Derris) Head, Juanita (Richard) Thompson, and Julie (David) Stevens, her brother David (Barbara) Inchausti, and their families.
A celebration of life will be shared with a Rosary on Tuesday, January 22, 7:00 pm (viewing from 5-7) at Sacred Heart Church, Boise, and a Celebration of Life Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 23, 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Church.
We would like to especially thank Corinne of Horizon Hospice for her loving care of Dorothy and her patience with our endless questions and concerns.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Sacred Heart School toward a scholarship fund for a child's tuition, or to the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.
Goian bego, Mama. We love you.

What a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to your mom. The love you describe is exactly the love she extended to anyone she came in contact with - including me. She was warm, gracious and kind. Always.

May she rest in God's arms, surrounded by angels and loved ones, and may He bless and grant each of you comfort and peace.

This very special lady touched many peoples lives
during her lifetime and the memories of our family(Campo) with the Ansotegui family span over 50 years. From all of us kids going to school together to our parents going to the Basque dances together, to simply being friends through thick and thin. Dodo & Papa were like second parents to the four of us. Her smile, sense of humor, and love will never be forgotten. Our love and prayers to Bonnie, Chris, Gina, Dan, & Toni and their families. Dodo will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
