John Tully Obituary
age 73, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015.
He is survived by his sister Patricia A. (nee Tully) Elam; nieces and nephew, Missy, Liz and Jeff; grandnieces, Felicia and Emily all of Atlanta, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard, J. and Wendy Tully and niece, Sarah all of North Ridgeville, Ohio.
Father Tully was born May 28, 1942 in Evergreen Park, Illinois. He was ordained May 24, 1969 at the Cathedral of St. Columba in Youngstown. Father Tully was dedicated to serving and ministering to youth and at risk youth in the areas he served in as a priest. He ministered to students at Walsh University and Central Catholic High School. He was assistant pastor at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon until his passing.
Father Tully's funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry Road, N.E., Massillon with Msgr. Robert J. Siffrin celebrant and Fr. Ed Gretchko homilist. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Fr. Tully will lie in state Thursday, Oct.22, 2015 from 3 to 8 p.m.. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Tully Scholarship Fund for St. Mary Church and School, 726 First St. N.E., Massillon, Ohio 44646. We will miss you Father Tully. You married John and I and I remember when we had to stand in front of you I swooped my dress to put it behind me and you said "What a flourish!" It made us laugh. God Speed.

Father Tully took me in as a young teen. He was the only man to truly offer wisdom, guidance and care to me in a time I was lost.
He put me on the path to the US Marines and a fulfilling life. I am forever grateful.
Thank you for being a bring a father when I had none. Someday I'll see you again.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Fr. Tully's family. He was a great man and priest who always greeted you with a smile. He truly cared about his church family. His homilies always made you stop and think . We will miss his big smile and great personality. It was an honor to know him. God Bless you Fr. Tully!

I'd like to offer my condolences to both of you and your families. I lost my brother Ken two years ago. I was very impressed to read about all his accomplishments. I wish you and your families well. I know he will be missed, but what an addition to God's team in heaven.

Fr. Tully was a great guy & what a comedian!! The "Dymphites" (as he called us girls from the Shrine office) will all truly miss his joking around with us at the kitchen table and putting up with our
gabfests. I'm sure he's probably making all laugh that are "up above" with him.
Our love & prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.

Fr. Tully had a special way about him. His demeanor, smile and laugh were infectious. He was truly a memorable homilist. I had the pleasure to call him my friend. Thank you for everything Fr. Tully. Father Tully was a joy to life he made everyone around him feel like they were so important to him. he would always have a smile on his face and make you laugh even through his sermons, he would make a joke or two he never had a negative thing to say about anyone always had a positive attitude about life.Fr Tully will be missed by all who knew him. Father Tully was a joy and great wise counselor on his visits to Central when I was in high school. The last few years, I've enjoyed seeing him again and listening to his homilies when I visited St Mary's and came from out of state. He always remembered me nearly 10 years later- even details like what songs I sang at Mass. His words and kindness to all will be missed. His charity and service to so many will be hard to replace. May his legacy continue to lead others to faith and may you rest in peace Father Tully!!!

Our sympathy to the family of Fr. Tully. As a parishioner of St. Mary's I always enjoyed seeing Father, hearing his homily and sharing a laugh with him. Fr. Tully definitely had a way with words and in his soft-spoken way, he helped me gain a different perspective on a number of topics - almost like a gotcha moment. You could definitely tell that he loved the children of St. Mary's, whether helping out at school in the morning or kidding around after Mass. He was one of the most selfless people I have had the pleasure to meet. Fr. Tully will be greatly missed. God Bless You.

My Sympathies go out to the Family of Fr. Tully. he taught our Religion class at Ursuline High School. 26 years later he married me to my wife. He was also a friend, confidant and a patient in my practice. I will miss him and our conversations. He is at Peace with our Lord. Which is exactly where he's supposed to be. May God be with you now. Father Tully was one of the most powerfully eloquent and brilliant homilists I've ever heard; down-to-earth, practical, extremely knowledgeable, no-nonsense, ministerial, and gifted with a powerful voice -and even these words don't do him justice. He will be missed.
