Junior Garfield Hamm, 77, of Whitetop, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. 
Mr. Hamm, better known as "June," was born to Garfield and Lillian Finley Hamm in West Jefferson, N.C., on March 23, 1941. He was a self-employed tree farmer. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Roop Hamm; two sons, Benny E. R. Roop and Edward Hamm and his daughter, Rosa L. Blevins; sister, Judy Pachey; and one brother, James Hamm.
June lived a life of honesty and simplicity, finding great joy in being with his children and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing and had a keen appreciation for creation. The family is greatly comforted knowing that he has finally gained his eternal life, reunited with all his family and kin.  
June is survived by one daughter and spouse, Bernice and James Grubb of Green Cove; one son and spouse, Bobby and Lori Hamm of Lansing, N.C; eight grandchildren, Brian Osborne Lavon Haga, Brianna Osborne Kayla Walls, Logan Walls Leah Turlington, Chelsey Hamm and Hunter Hamm; six great grandchildren, Braxton, Madelin, Jackson, Lukas, Elim, Kyle; three sisters, Nancy Hart, Sue and Tom Gentry and Kathy and Newton Miller all of Chilhowie; two brothers, Tom and Maxine Hamm and Rick and Cambi Hamm all of Chilhowie.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at the Whitetop Baptist Church at 1 p.m. by Rev. Dennis Eller. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
