Margaret Emeline Watson Cornett, aged 89 years, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2018, in Sacramento, Calif.
She was born in Comers Rock on Feb. 22, 1929, the third of six children, and only daughter, of Alma and William Howard Watson.
A 1948 graduate of Elk Creek High School, she married Carl Wesley Cornett of Flat Ridge on Aug. 1, 1949 and moved to the Washington, D.C., area in the 1950s. Margaret worked for many years as a beautician until she and her husband retired to a home in Flat Ridge. They relocated to Sacramento 20 years ago to be closer to their son and his family, but continued to enjoy many summers in Grayson County.
Margaret is fondly remembered by family and friends for her warmth, generosity, hospitality, and deep and abiding friendships.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl, in 2017, as well as brothers Irving, Donald, and Willard Watson.
Margaret is survived by her loving son Craig Cornett and daughter-in-law Mary Meuel, of Sacramento, Calif.; and granddaughters Sarah Margaret Cornett of Seattle, Wash. and Emily Elizabeth Cornett of Sacramento, Calif. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank Watson of Riverton, W.Va., and Gordon Watson of Seneca Rocks, W.Va.
A funeral service will be held at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Comers Rock Cemetery Fund (230 Archery Lane, Elk Creek, VA 24326).
