Joyce Enkema
93, Indianapolis, passed away November 14, 2012. She was born August 17, 1919, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Stan and Bess Beranek. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis, and her sister, Beatrice.
She graduated from Central High School in Omaha, and then attended Lindenwood College and then Carleton College where she met the love of her life, Lew. They were married in the closing months of World War II and soon settled in Indianapolis. She loved all her family deeply and spent her life caring for them.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her sons, Jeff (Linda) and Stephen (Julia), and her daughter, Wendy, and eight grandchildren.
Joy enjoyed volunteering through the years for such organizations as the Children's Bureau, Civic Theater, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Contemporary Club, the Indianapolis Racquet Club, the Dramatic Club, Woodstock Club and the Hillsboro Club (FL).
Joy's family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff of the Stratford Assisted Living facility, the Nurses at Marquette Manor, and the doctors at Priority Physicians for their outstanding care and kindness.
Burial will be private. A reception will be held at Meridian Hills Country Club, 7099 Spring Mill Road from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on November 27, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy's and Girl's Clubs of Indianapolis, the Children's Bureau, or to a charity of your choosing. Joyce was one of the most delightful and thoughtful people I have been blessed to know. I will always remember her warm smile. She was dedicated to family and warmly welcomed friends and associates. She will be missed by our community. My deepest condolences to the Enkema family.
