Pamela Dedinsky Obituary

Pamela Jean Uphoff Dedinsky

55, died on November 14th, 2012 at home after a ten month battle with cancer. She passed at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Pam was born April 3rd, 1957 in Columbus, Nebraska to Don Uphoff and Renelda Uphoff Molacek. She was one of six children and is survived by her sisters Jayne Westering, Jackie Loseke, twin Penny Kampshneider and brothers Kent and Tony Uphoff. Pam graduated from Scotus High School in Columbus, Nebraska in 1975 after which she earned her nursing degree from Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing in 1978. Pam met her husband Greg in Omaha. They were married in 1983 after which they moved to Indianapolis where Greg began his surgical residency. In a new city with no friends, mom spent her time nursing at St. Vincent's Stress Center and shopping for friends (and groceries) at Cub Foods. She quickly changed employment to Fairbanks Hospital where she worked for the next twenty years as a nurse in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Over that time, she blessed Greg with four beautiful daughters.

Pam spent most of her adult life taking care of others. She was the kind of woman who would give her shirt to a total stranger and could make friends with a cardboard box. Pam was notorious for her ability to find a good deal - especially when it involved cars. She was an avid Indiana Pacer and Nebraska Cornhusker fan no matter their record. Music has always been a large part of her her life and for many years, she sang in the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus.

She spent the kid's grade school years volunteering at Orchard School and running the concession stand to raise money for the school. She also spent years volunteering as a volleyball coach at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and grade school. When the kids moved onto Cathedral High School, Pam became an avid Cathedral Volleyball fan where she spent countless hours supporting the Fighting Irish. She also spent time in Honduras in January of 2011 where she fell in love with the Honduran people.

In 2003, Pam returned to work at Fairbanks until she was diagnosed with cancer in January 2012. Her last ten months have been a testament to her quiet faith, fearlessness, and humility. She endured chemotherapy and radiation with a Pam-smile and no complaints. She passed ready and willing to return to her Heavenly Father.

Pam is survived by her loving husband Greg, her daughters Kendal, Kaylin, Lauren, and Ellie, her siblings and mother, Renelda Molacek.

You are invited to visit http://www.leppertmortuary.com where you may share a story with the family, sign the guest book, or in lieu of purchasing flowers in her memory, please make donations to Friends of Honduran Children. Checks may be sent to Friends of Honduran Children PO Box 501213 Indianapolis, IN 46250 or online via Paypal at fhcindiana.org. Donors should write, "In Memory of Pam Dedinsky," on the memo line.

A Catholic Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Indianapolis on Saturday, November 17th at 3 p.m. The wake will be held at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel on Friday, November 16th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Dear Greg and family,
I was out of town and am sorry I was not able to have attended Pam's wake and funeral to extend my personal sympathy. Pam was one dear lady who always had positive things to pass on to others. I worked with her at St. V's and FB and I cherished my time with her. I am sorry for your deep loss and will continue to keep you all in prayer and love.

So shocked and saddened to hear of Pam's passing! What a wonderful Lady! She lit up a room when she walked in, with her personality. I know she will be greatly missed by all her friends and family, but most of all from Greg and her girls...she loved you so! My prayers for you... she will always live in your hearts.

I regret I was unable to pay my respects as I was out of town, but Pam will always be remembered as God's gift to all who came in contact with her. When I first joined IHM, I so loved hearing her sing! I was especially blessed to get to know her through the choir.
May God comfort you all, and grant you peace at this difficult time.

You don't know me but we share a common friend that touches our lives weekly. I have heard about Pam for many months. I have been shared by this mutual friend what she was going through and what a great person she was. I am one of four daughters that lost their mother at 50 to cancer. I feel for all of you and what lose you feel. My mother never saw me or my sisters marry, have babies, have multiple accomplisments and/or failures. I wish there was a phone line to heaven or texting :) or skype. BUT there is not. Just know she is always part of you and each sister is part of her. Rejoice in the life she led and what she instilled in her family and everyone she touched. That will always continue. Much love going out to your family.

For many years I had the privilege of living near the Dedinsky family. Often I would see Pam coming or going and any random morning or evening chat in the family's driveway usually left me in awe of the amount of stuff this amazing lady was able to accomplish on a daily basis. You didn't need to spend a lot of time with Pam to pick up on her loyalty to service. Her mind and body were always on the go - no doubt helping better the life of someone else, which is how I will remember her. Pam's gift to me was unknowingly making me realize that we all have the ability to give our time, talent, and treasure.
No doubt incredible before, God's plan now has one of the most giving, caring, and selfless new committee members imaginable! She will be missed, always admired, and in my prayers.

Greg and girls;

Your mom was indeed a wonderful and beautiful lady. We had the opportunity to grow up accross the street from her in Columbus, Nebraska. What fun and excitement was shared with all there. This past summer we were blessed to visit with her and Ellie. Her indomitable spirt & positive attitude were evident for all to see.

Oh, the joy there must have been when Grandma & Grampa Schaefer welcomed her into Heaven !!!

Sending our Love & prayers to All of you.

Pam was one of the very first people I met when I moved from Washington DC to Indianapolis, IN in 1995. Pam was two doors down. At 32, I was a newlywed and shell-shocked to have left the east coast. Pam, not much older that I, marched over with 4 beautiful little girls and all the warmth and kindness the mid-west is famous for. Clearly, I was behind! She was my go-to Mom when my daughter was born not long thereafter. She provided me with hours of phone support after I'd moved to Virgina and my second child was diagnosed with autism. She was, as they say, beautiful inside and out. I look forward to seeing my old friend again someday.
