Brian Edward Hartley, 52, Martinsville, passed away at 12:39 a.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital.

He was born on Thursday, January 19, 1961 in Salem, Indiana, to Louis E. "Lou" Hartley (deceased) and Mary E. (Trinkle) Hartley of Martinsville.

Brian was a graduate of Martinsville High School in 1979 and received his bachelor and graduate degrees from Indiana University. He began his teaching years at Pleasant Grove and Center Grove Elementary schools. He also supervised student teachers from Indiana University and worked with Ball State students in Washington Township schools. At the time of his death, he was working as an interventionist at Summitt Elementary School in the Monroe County School System.

As a youth, Brian was active with the Boy Scout program and received the God and Country award at First Christian Church. In high school, he was a member of the Marching Artesians and the Madrigal Singers at Martinsville High School.

He was a faithful member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, Vacation Church School, and played the piano for children's worship.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Martinsville, with Dr. Mark Poindexter and Rev. Evie Stuard officiating. Visitation will be at Costin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
