Dorothy Jean Wagner Brooks

84, Indianapolis, departed this life on Sunday, January 5, 2014. She peacefully transitioned to eternal life surrounded by loved ones.

Born in New Iberia, Louisiana, she completed her education at Stowe Teacher's College in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was joined in marriage to Curtis Brooks, Sr. in 1949 and together they shared over sixty-four years of love and contentment. They moved to Indianapolis, where she began working at the U. S. Army Finance and Accounting Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison. She was a long time member of New Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, chairperson of the Benevolence Committee for over 20 years and "Choraleers" youth music group leader. A member of EMANON Social Club, her post-retirement focus was on community service, gardening and religious education groups. Volunteer work over the years included being a Hostess at the 1987 Pan Am Games and cafeteria monitor at Westlane Junior High School.

On Friday, January 10, there will be a Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. with visitation prior from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Curtis Brooks, Sr; daughters, Bevela and Casandra; son, Lenard; grandchildren, Crystal, Anthony, Corey, Monica and Cameron; great grandchildren and a sister, Myrtle Green. She was preceded in death by her younger son, Curtis Brooks, Jr.
