Died on Sept. 5, 2012. She was born on a bright moonlit night Oct. 6, 1922 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to W. Scott Westerman and Frieda Wuerfel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Joanne Feely. Ellen graduated magna cum laude from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She did graduate studies at Northwestern and IUPUI. On Aug. 29, 1945, Ellen married Rev. Wesley E. Brashares with whom she shared 44 happy parsonage years before his death in 1989. She is survived by her brother, W. Scott Westerman, Jr.; her 5 children; 9 granddaughters; 1 grandson and 4 great-grandchildren. Ellen was employed as a substitute teacher but her priority job was at home as wife, mother, and homemaker and in the church and community as a volunteer. The legacy for which Ellen will always be remembered is based on her credo to serve God fully and make every human encounter one that expresses love, encouragement and affirmation of others.
