Ruth Ann Smith Edwards
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 26, 2013 in Greenwood Indiana after battling a long illness. Daughter of Frank and Emma Smith and sister of the late Loren Smith, she was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis and graduate of Emmerick Manual High School.
Ruth was the beloved wife of Donald Edwards from 1953 until his death in 1982.
She is survived by son Gary Edwards (Carol), daughters Kathy Woodall (Rick) and Julie Baer (David); 11 grandchildren: Nathan Woodall (Dina Calamur) and Kimberly Magness (Christopher Magness) Trut, Valerie, Victoria, Veeanna, Trey and Tyler Edwards, Brittany Schick (Joseph Schick), Justin and Jacob Baer; and four great-grandchildren: Alonna Magness, Jaya and Kiran Woodall, and Ella Schick.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness especially the caregivers at The Hearth at Stones Crossing and Senior Home Companions. A special thank you to her caregiver Cindy Wheadon for the countless hours spent by her side and enjoyment provided to the very end.
Ruth, along with her husband Donald, founded Edwards Electrical and Mechanical in 1968, building a successful business working side by side for many years. She enjoyed many activities including ballroom dancing, boating, traveling, and spending time in Florida on the beach. Ruth was a member of University Heights Methodist Church and also a member of Continental Dance Club. She was especially delighted being a part of card club with her lifelong friends Jane, Marion, Maude, Nola, Pat, Rosie and Shirley. She enjoyed attending and watching Pacer and Fever basketball games with her family.
As much as she loved her friends, hobbies and activities, Ruth cherished time spent with her family. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren send their love to their "Memaw" and will cherish their many memories of her.
Ruth was a strong and determined woman who assisted her husband in starting a successful business while being a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Her family and close friends will attend a celebration of her life in a private service. Donations can be made in her honor to the Methodist Health Foundation in honor of Ruth Edwards, P.O. Box 7168, Indianapolis, IN 46207.
