Charles Leonard Beaven

83, Indianapolis, passed away on March 7, 2013. A lifelong member of St. Rita Catholic Church, he was baptized on April 20, 1929. He attended St. Rita Catholic School and graduated from Cathedral High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. Beaven had a long and varied career. He went to work at the U.S. Army Finance & Accounting Center at Ft. Benjamin Harrison immediately after his service in the military. He co-owned a service station with his brother and also owned Al-Key Café, a popular local tavern, for many years. After selling the business and "retiring" briefly, he became a salesman at Palmer Dodge and Collins Oldsmobile. He retired from the Canterbury Hotel, where he was the doorman for 17 years, at the age of 81.

On Saturday, March 16, visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m. at Stuart Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara Lee Beaven; daughters, Cynthia "Sandy" and Charbra Beaven; brothers, Lawrence Beaven, Richard Beaven, Sr. (Betty) and Marion Thomas Beaven and sisters, Clara T. Warner and Betty Ruth Hughes (Ernest), as well as a host of other relatives and friends
