Charles O. Hendricks 93, of Indianapolis and formerly of Speed, Indiana, passed away November 22, 2007. He was born in Speed, Indiana on February 9, 1914, and was the son of the late Asbury and Lillie Belle Hendricks. He graduated from Silver Creek High School and attended Central Normal College and Indiana University. He was employed by Louisville Cement Company until he was elected Secretary of State of Indiana in 1961. He served in that position until 1965 and was Republican State Chairman from 1965 to 1967. Thereafter he worked for the Indiana Department of Insurance until retiring in 1986. He was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash on three occasions by three different Governors. Prior to returning to Indiana in 2001, he resided in Naples, Florida. He was predeceased by Mary Popp Hendricks, his wife of 49 years, four older sisters, Katie Neff, Ella Mae Reagan, Helen Cowling and Anna Bell Rasmussen. He is survived by two children, Marilyn Sue Hendricks (Jeffrey) Bailey of Indianapolis and Charles D. (Helen) Hendricks of LaPorte, Indiana; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, November 26, 2007 at Speed Memorial Church at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Speed Memorial Church, Speed, Indiana or Silver Creek High School Scholarship Fund, Sellersburg, Indiana.
